From my culinary schooling---depending on the spice and the brand a spice (not freshed ground) will last A YEAR or more if stored in the original container and out of sunlight. We'd buy some in bulk (especially baking during the holidays) and the leftovers were fine to use through the year. As you've said you're kinda on a budget for the holidays so don't think if you buy a bottle of cinnamon (for example) you have to throw it away by summer. Trust me, you don't.

Now that's what I call an informed response! Thank you. I could probably deal with a year, a lot better than only 6 months or so. (For me), if all spices were only 6 months, I don't think I'd have even 5 spices in the cabinet, that I'd bother to buy--knowing I'd only be throwing out my money.

Agree.
Also depends on your town.. sometimes you will need other more than the other.
In my house for example, the dryer is a must.
Because our water contains a lot of minerals (even when filtered) and when you dry via sun/air..the clothes feel hard as a sheetrock.

Have you also tried fabric softener (the liquid kind) to add to the wash? Maybe that might help.

Our homeowner's association, does not allow anyone to dry clothes outside!

That's bizarre, as the state of Colorado protects the right to dry outdoors. I posted a link below (it's from 2013, so not sure if your laws have changed, but I doubt it). Link is from The Legal Research Center.

It is quite beyond me why some people have an issue  with others who simply want to naturally, air-dry their laundry--especially in the warmer months. My mother did it spring through fall, to save on the energy bill.

The problem is, a lot of these spices have been for a bit of time in display. Herbs and Spices lose power over time, specially when they get in direct contact to the sun.

Interesting observation you made. My thought is that since the spices in the store displays are in sealed containers, I would assume they'd be fine, until you actually pull off the seal. That's when they'd (in time) start to lose their potency. Any spices I have at home are kept in a dark cabinet, so at least I don't have to deal with sunlight wrecking them! ;)

Also, talk about one hell of a day.

My mother had to deliver her jeep to get the ceiling "carpet" fixed and glued.
So I lent her my car.. guess what happened? she broke my car.. :/
I swear.. out of 8 times the car as broken down.. 6 has been when my mother (70%) or my sister (30%) used the car.
I HAVE NO IDEA HOW BAD THEY DRIVE to always cause damage to my car.
the worst? the repairshop is swamped with jobs. At least they said they ;re not gonna charge me money, because its still under guarantee.
And here I was hoping I could already get my car to get the tires aligned and have it finally working at 100%.

nope D:

and then.. my mom's jeep had a small failure (the ceiling lamp was on 100%, making it a serious fire hazzard as the lamp gets hot)
so we had to return, get it fixed, and done.

on the good side.. I bought my new camera lens and my boss will get it to my country when she comes to visit next week.

Oh Cesar, that is awful. You've had more than your share of problems with cars. Sorry to hear all this (again . .. ). :( I hope things get better.

Sorry about your car situation. Good new is the camera lens. I'm looking forward to you hopefully posting some new pictures with it, I enjoyed your flower pictures last winter.

Had a great time with DD on our roadtrip. Lots of amazing fall fix'n food, hot ciders, pumpkin cheese cakes. One thing more yummy than the next. We went to a rural craft fair, these folk are very talented and unlike here the crafts are affordable. My DD collected some more decorations for Thanksgiving and Christmas for her place, one cuter than the next.

Plus we had a meal at Cracker Barrel. Their braised pot roast was beyond amazing. Could just cut with a fork, gravy luscious. While it came with their famous carrots and mashed potatoes we both ordered the hash brown casserole 'cause how can one go to Cracker Barrel without hash brown casserole???? :geek:

Not Disney but a great trip. Just love traveling with my kids.

That all sounds very pleasant. Glad you had such a nice time. :)

And my feelings on Inside Out was one of the worst I've seen since the last Winnie the Pooh Movie. Me, I thought it was just too much focus on Sadness. Inside Out reminded me of so many of the children's books and novels focusing on kids being sad and depressed along with bad things happening to them. It was meant as a kids movie and my take on it was it missed the mark on what kids could relate to. Not a good balance in the overall minutes of the film of sadness to uplifting. Likely why I don't watch A Wonderful Life.

Never seen Inside Out. Then again, I haven't seen most films! ;)

Haha, well, the thumb is better, got more movement in it. But my index finger's metacarpal is cracked, so I have very little use of my index finger. Probably happened during surgery. I go back for another x-ray in two weeks. Doc's thinking it will heal on its own, but we have to keep a check on it. I suspected something was wrong because I could barley use it. It would flop around when I would type. It won't bend all the way down with the rest of my fingers into a fist. All my other fingers are fine and basically normal. I have to compensate by using other fingers when I type or play piano. I've never had a broken bone...until this.

Sympathy like. That doesn't sound good what you just described there . . .
