Yeah, summer vacations are hard on many. We took our kids out of school, usually in October/November for a couple weeks, we were all so much more happy than when we'd go down for the 4th of July.

Yep, our last trip was in November for Thanksgiving and it was much more enjoyable, even though DD and I had colds for part of that trip. But that was when she was in pre-school. When we went to Hawaii last year for almost 3 weeks we got a talking-to from her elementary school about the hazards of keeping her out of school for so long. :grumpy:

Yep, I'm guessing it was due to being the weekend and locals - a very different vibe than at the Disney parks. When I was there for lunch earlier in the week, it was much less crowded.

I'm in the jury is still out on Springs replacing DTD. The same issues are still there rebranding or not. DTD has been reworked and rebranded so many times now and then the Hyperion fail. Guess that is why the Boardwalk works. Not so much of a melting pot of locals and guests at Boardwalk.

Yeah, we've had that discussion here many times. Being a school board member I caught more heat than most. I didn't care. Family time counts. There are not hazzards if the students keep current. They did homeworks for 3 days before we left (I took them out a day early Friday, they did homework Friday, Saturday Sunday and we flew out early morning Monday) My kids graduated with honors and went onto college and graduated. Wouldn't trade my decisions for family vacations for anything. We did it every year. By high school I just lied and sighted family emergency and off we'd go. Best ones were when my board conventions were in Orlando. What was I to do leave them home alone????

Ooh, family emergency - I'll have to remember to use that one next time. Thanks! :cat:

I dont like to put loose stuff in my pockets.. if I go into a coaster.. they might end up flying.
call me paranoic, but I've lost stuff from pockets alone many times.
a wallet doesnt fall that easily (plus as foreign, you have to have with you either your VISA and/or passport at all times). Visas are too important to leave them loose in a pocket. I carry them fiercely protected in a kangaroo bag or in my wallet :p

I'm known to go into the parks with my iphone in one pocket and tiny wallet in the other. Never lost either *knocks wood* I was sad when fannie packs went wayward. They were a good solution for Disney, perfect when my kids were small to hang onto their own stuff.

I do hear ya though, remember earlier this year when my Sis *lost* her passport in Mexico and was trapped there for 3 days and had to travel to a major city to get it replaced??? Not fun. So get that being in a foreign country. Do you really carry your passport into the parks?

When you say kangaroo bag, is that like a messenger bag or a f a n n y pack worn in the front? Either way, this image comes to mind:

If you ever need just a few days to tack onto your vacation also try *personal business* Students like staff are entitled to personal days just like the staff is afforded. I actually had one attendance woman ask me once what the personal business was!!! I asked if she was required to disclose her personal business when using her personal days? Ugh. She shut up. We were going on a college visit that we hadn't planned out 2 weeks in advance that the school required for an excused absence.o_O That didn't work for the University.

Too many uncalled for rules and each staff member in high school tended to have different interpretations. Lie, it is simpler and less repercussions for the kid. Honesty is overrated. But I always, always made sure they stayed current with their work. If you look at a student handbook vs the school board policy book the schools often take great liberties with the student handbook interpretation of the board policy. When I took my son out for 2 weeks in the fall the Principal hauled me in saying that 10 school days was the maximum absence for the entire year, so said the handbook and it did. What the policy actually stated was 10%. I asked her if she was aware that 10% did not mathematically equate to 10 days? Basic elementary school math! Yep, she didn't like me much. Didn't care.

We had family vacations and the spawn still were very well educated, have good jobs. Hazards are drama if parents take responsibility to make sure the students do the work.

I honestly do not trust pockets for my Note 4.
Its so big.. even bigger with the armor I bought for it.
So I have it in my kangaroo bag OR in the protection hook for my belt.
Plus when I have it in my kangaroo bag or belt.. They dont hit the sides of attractions (like the seats at Thunder Mountain)

as for the passport.. nope, I prefer to just have the VISA.. since it is credit card sized.
I usually have a paper copy of my passport important info with me all the times.
