O.k., all you guys with differing views on vehicles. I've got a better solution --

Reliable, economical (no gas or battery power), and no recalls!

We bought hot wheels for our 3 year old nephew for Christmas. He’s going to love it! Some family in NYC don’t even have a drivers license. Public transportation and Uber all the way or a lot of walking to do errands.

Where I live had a little bit snow today with wind howling. Right now it is 18 degrees, but feels like 1 degree outside.
If I played football in 1 degree I don’t know if I would feel the pain from the tackle or just numb from it. Green Bay fans win or lose I give them credit to stay and cheer till the end of the game.

Acura , Toyota , Honda ( with a few recalls ), have regularly been tops in reliability surveys. Land Rover, Jaguar, Mercedes Benz, VW, Jeep , Chrysler , Dodge are in the bottom half of reliability studies.

I’ve posted this before, but we’ve owned one Jeep product and one Dodge product in years gone by, and both were pure trash. Mechanically, and otherwise.
The first was a brand new 1990 Jeep Cherokee Laredo. 4 liter straight-6 with a 5-speed manual transmission. Looked and ran great, initially. At about 25,000 miles, both the clutch slave and master cylinders went out, just before Christmas of 1992. The thing came with a 3-year, 36,000 mile “bumper to bumper” standard warranty. It got towed to the dealership, and then they told me those parts weren’t covered.
I told the guy that, last time I checked, those parts were between the bumpers. He said there was nothing he could do, but offered me a phone number in Houston and one in Detroit.
I called the one in Detroit. The lady on the phone gave me the same crap, and then I told her they were all lying about their “bumper to bumper” warranty. She asked if she could put me on hold.
She got back on the line 2 mins. later and told me she had talked to the dealership and had authorized the repairs to be done at no charge. Damn, honor your word. What a concept.
Everything with that vehicle just went downhill from there on out. They must have had it rigged…!!! 😉
The second one we bought was a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan. We bought it used in 2002, with a little over 29,000 miles on it.
Again, loved it in the beginning, then it quickly went to crap.
Shortly after the beginning of this year, my 21+-year-old Chevy Malibu blew a head gasket.
Wasn’t nearly worth getting repaired, so sold its carcass off for $750.
I started driving Carolyn’s 2010 Toyota Camry, and we paid cash for a 2017 Ford Escape for Carolyn, that, fortunately, had a rollover full warranty on it.
Carolyn and our youngest DD (Sarah) bought it without my consult, but at least it had that warranty, ‘cause we needed it.
On our way to my folks for Mother’s Day, it started making a familiar noise. When we got there, I asked Carolyn to leave the engine on and pop the hood. Sure enough, the main pulley was slightly wobbling…water pump going out.
Had it towed to the dealership,
Fortunately, that warranty covered parts and labor, but they wanted to charge us $200+ for the “diagnostic”.
I called them and said no you won’t. I told you what was wrong with it when you got it.
No charge.
Cars are definitely a necessary evil.
I remember how much fun driving was way back in the day, and now, especially with all the idiots on the road these days who’ve never read a simple drivers manual apparently, it’s all just a PITA.

Thanks, all!

I own a white 2022 Honda Passport now. Don’t hate it, never loved it. Soon trade value will plummet as I approach 20K miles and a redesign is coming in 2025.

Prior to that, I leased a 2018 electric blue RAV4 and loved it. Don’t love the newer versions as much.

Found a 2024 sapphire blue Kia Sportage SX Prestige, brand new leftover, premium sound system, all kinds of bells & whistles, marked down from $37K to $31K. Reasonably presuming $25K credit for my car, and guessing I can get them down to $30K, it would be a fairly easy transaction with little new debt. (I owe about $12K on the Honda.)

Looked at CR-V but would have to buy the Touring level ($45K reduced to $39K so far) just to get the Bose stereo. 🤦🏻‍♂️ And no blue available. 🫤

Wish list vs. Kia:

Bright blue ✅
Better stereo ✅
Sunroof ✅ (bonus: huge panoramic sunroof)
Heated power seats ✅ (bonus: also cooling.)
Hybrid: 👎🏻
AWD 👎🏻 (found one with AWD but $4K higher. Also has a tow hitch. May negotiate.)
Add’l bonuses: love the screens 2 x 12”
360 cameras
Put turn signal on, screen shows camera on that side of car.
Heated steering wheel for those 3 nights in January or in case we flee to Canada.
I like the design, also discontinued so a newer one would not be better.

Those are the twins. One FWD, one AWD.

Haven’t slept a wink. Time for melatonin and stuff.
Love the color! Go with AWD.

I was informed by the lovely @Figgy1 to post this here.

Last night was a whirlwind. For the past year we did not think we’d be seeing this show, but we skipped the film just in case. Luck allowed us to buy face value tickets a few days ago, with the most incredible view.

1989 was our first big concert as a couple, in this very stadium. Here we are almost 10 years later at The Eras Tour N1 in Vancouver. 😭💖✨

Glad you two had a chance to see the concert -- must have been fun! (I don't follow her music or anything, but realize that her concert tour was a worldwide phenomenon.) Thanks for sharing your photos here.

with all the engine problems of Kias, id stay the hell away from them.

It was on the news here in Canada, where some buyers have to wait up to 1 year to get their engines replaced under warranty because there were so many of them failing or destroying themselves.
I wouldn’t even consider buying a Nissan at this point. Their lifeline as a company is touch and go. Business news reporting if the company doesn’t find an investor in the next 12-14 months , Nissan could cease operations. It’s a shame. We owned Maxima , Stanza , 200 SX turbo stick shift back in the day.
