I know that too well because of what happened to my mom.

When my mom was in her mid 30s, she had something like a lump in her neck that she saw. The specialist had my mom had getting one side of her thyroid gland removed. She was diagnosed with Hashimoto's. Her thyroid is not active to this day with her taking medication.

My younger brother and I remembered her reminded her being in the hospital after surgery and our dad took over our mom's duties while she was in the hospital. This was the first of 2 times my mom went went to the hospital for surgery when I was growing up. The 2nd time was an emergency, but was not thyroid related.

That's interesting that they had it removed for Hashimoto's. My dad has it, a blood test confirms it now.

She probably doesn't have a thyroid anymore. Hashimoto's kills off your thyroid until you don't have one.

We had so much fun tonight at A's school carnival, but I cried pretty hard when we pulled out of the parking lot. This was A's last day at this school. She will now go to a new school closer to our new house. These teachers have been like family to us for the last three years, and A's school friends have been her constant companions. So happy we moved and i love the new area, but this was a very sad goodbye for us.

My friend had a hysterectomy this year, and the immediate side effect for her is confirmed Hasimoto's. She takes meds now too. I had never heard of it until this year...

It's quite common. It's basically an autoimmune disorder where your body kills off your thyroid. You develop underactive thyroid from it. It's one way to develop hypothyroidism, although a lot of women develop it from just getting older, and then some people's thyroids just never work as well. Mine didn't, but I don't have one anymore, so...

Keep in mind, my mom had it removed back in the 1980s. How things were done medically were different in that era. The other thing was the specialist at first thought my mom had thyroid cancer.

There are different thyroid problems out there. I have been taking thyroid medication since the 2000s, but it is not Hashimotos. My mom was not the only one with a thyroid problem. My dad takes thyroid medication for years although it is not Hashimoto's.

The nature of my thyroid problem symptom showed in two ways. I had chest pain and some of test readings were off due to my thyroid giving off a false reading. I had it checked by a doctor. I was concern with chest pain because at the time, I had relatives on both sides of the family that had heart problems without any idea that chest pain can be a sign of thyroid problems.
