Well the ac guy just left. Apparently we need a whole new unit for the downstairs. $7-8k in total. Thank goodness we paid for American Home Shield. Hopefully we will not have to pay anything but the $100 service call. It may take a couple of weeks to fix, but I don’t care. Upstairs still works. The downstairs unit is over 15 years old.

Bad and good news... thank goodness you had that kind of insurance!

I wish I had a hunter in my family, I love venison!

Same here.
But, we haven’t hunted in years. Some of my cousins on pops side still do, and used to give us some meat, but, unfortunately, we don’t get out that way (pops hometown) very often anymore since my grandmother passed away several years ago (grandfather passed from colon cancer at the age of 77 - 3 days before his 78th b-day - in 1978).
She had a great venison recipe that, fortunately, my mother can replicate perfectly...!!!!! :hungry:

Oh, and my squirrel story...!!! :D;):)
One time, quite a few years back, my folks had us over for another Sunday dinner. I walked in the house, and immediately smelled somethin' nice cookin' on the stove. I took the lid off the pot, and thought that it looked like some awfully small chicken (how it didn't register with me, I have no clue :cyclops:).
Several minutes later, the table was all set, and we sat down to say grace.
Directly after, my pop picked up the pan of "chicken" and offered it to my DWifey saying "Squirrel, Carolyn?"
I thought she was gonna' wretch right there...!!!
To make things more clear, my DWifey does NOT do "exotic" food...at all.
On the other hand, my pop, myself, and one of my other brothers that was present, destroyed that squirrel...!!! :hungry:
When I asked my pop about it, he said that that particular squirrel just looked sooo plump and tasty in the trap, that he just couldn't resist...!!!!!:hilarious:
He used to live trap ‘em and go let ‘em out in a field a few miles down the road. No clue why really, as other squirrels would just come in and take their place. Or, maybe all the old squirrels just found their way back...? We’ll never know, as didn’t tag ‘em before releasin’ ‘em...!!!!! :hilarious:

And that is not the other issue. In some ways he loves to Micromanage . He pushes us to do certain things and complains or direct us (despite telling that WE are supposed to make everything work. Specially in the area where I am the supposed expert and he knows nothing) and to keep him up to date with reports on everything.
Yet in problems like this.. He claims he has no time to "micro manage" because he has very limited time.

So its like a bipolar person. Sometimes he wants something, sometimes he completely hates that something... and we have no clue what version he is at the moment we have to deliver our reports.

I rarely gripe about work (as there really isn’t much to gripe about, and much more to be thankful for :)), but, your last paragraph made me chuckle, as one of our principal partners is kinda’ like that, and has been ever since I’ve known him.
We never know what version he’s gonna’ be at any given time.
He will tell you that he doesn’t want you to spend a lot of time on something, and then a half hour later he’ll come check on the progress and tell you to take your time because it needs to be right, etc, and the list goes on and on with this stuff...!!!!! :hilarious:

Classic example was a recent project, and I’ll try to make this as short as possible...
The client bought a lot on Lake Austin. Lots on Lake Austin have their own zoning requirements.
First there is a 75’ shoreline setback (including from cutout boat slips), then there are slope zones...0-15%, 15-25%, 25-35%, and 35%+.
You can have no more than 35% impervious coverage in 0-15%, 10% in 15-25%, 5% in 25-35%, and 0% in 35%+.
The kicker is, although there was never a structure built on the property by the the previous owner, there is ton of impervious coverage already on the lot that has been put in over the years, in the form of a driveway, boat ramp, sport court, sidewalks, rock patio, rock walls, etc. This was all done many years ago before the latest Lake Austin zoning was even a glint in some city bureaucrats eye.
If we were to go by the current zoning, the client might be able to put a tool shed on the lot, and not the 5,000+ sq. ft. home they’re wanting...!!!!!!!!!!! :joyfull::hilarious:

The surveying company did the slope map (as they are required to), and did the calculations per zone of existing pervious and impervious coverage, but, since there was impervious coverage beyond the 75’ shoreline setback (i.e. boat ramp), they did the calculations for the entire lot, and didn’t break it out as what’s to the shoreline, and what’s beyond the 75’ shoreline setback, as they were supposed to...in comes lucky me...!!!!!!! :joyfull::hilarious:;)
Why was it not just put back in the surveying company’s court you might ask...? Because, “out of the goodness of his heart”, this partner wanted us to take care of it for the client... :cyclops:

Bottom line is, he and the main guy from the city seem to have either a communication problem, or are still, one or both, confused as to what is actually being asked for...I don’t think I am, and I’m pretty sure there will be another round...at least....... :cautious::cyclops:

I have had to recalculate numbers (amounts as small as 0.17 sq. ft. of impervious coverage in the 25-35% zone, and with CAD files overlaid, certain lines don’t “snap” to each other properly, so you have to toggle your o-snap off, zoom in as close as you can, and eyeball it) 4 different times, off and on
over a 3-week period, based on existing, proposed, what’s behind the 75’ shoreline setback, what’s between a proposed 25’ setback and the 75’ setback, etc., etc., etc., just to figure out the best way to get variances for this lot so the client can put a friggin’ house on the damn thing...!!!!! :hilarious:
The whole time being told, alternately, to go quickly, slow down, you’re not doing it right (which I have proved I had been the whole time, just as instructed), and everything in between... :cyclops:
none of us have these kinda’ problems with the other 3 partners, only him.
Again, a good guy, as they all are, and I’ve related as much many times over the years, but, a real doozy of a dude to work for sometimes...!!!!! 🤪😉

Anyway, I hope whatever problems you and this guy are having can be ironed out, and soon...!!!
Best of luck, Cesar...!!!!! :)

Sounds like the boss is a bit unstable. That's difficult to work with someone like that. Just continue to do your job, and give him LOTS of space . . .

Just replace “American” with “boss”...!!! ;)

While we're on the subject of food --

What dog grabs a large bunch of bananas, drags them off the kitchen table to the floor, and mauls them-- ALL EIGHT OF THEM?!! :banghead: That would be our wacko dog, Jack, of course.

First, here's why there was such a large bunch of bananas to begin with. The other day, I bought one banana, and ate it. Hubs saw that, and since I'm home more now, he figured he should probably buy more bananas for me. (I'm really not sure how he assumed a crisis was at hand with bananas ... 🤨.) So, yesterday, he went out and bought a large bunch of 8 bananas. Very nice gesture and all, but --

I eat about 1 banana a month. :p

Just another day here . . . :hilarious:

Are you sure Jack isn’t related to “Fleegle” from “The Banana Splits”...???!!!!!!! :cyclops: :joyfull::D:hilarious:;):)

Looking at hitting 100 degrees tomorrow with 87% humidity. I'm supposed to go golfing with my grandchildren tomorrow. It will be early in the morning or they could count on me turning into a big puddle of grease before it's done. All I can say is that it wouldn't be unreasonable for me to find whomever invented central Air Conditioning and kiss them square on the lips. I love it down here, but, I cannot wrap my head around how people survived in the 1800's and most of the 1900's without it.

You can start by givin’ this guy a big ol’ smooch...!!! ;)

When I was a kid, we never had air conditioning in our homes or our cars. I remember everyone sitting in the living room in front of the oscillating fan which provided a cooling breeze once every 30 seconds. The car required open windows, every single one of them. I remember so many vacation trips sticking to the seats of the plastic covered car seats. The plus side was most of the year in Vermont did not require any AC, snow shovels for sure. One thing I noticed about the south is that the ranges of temperatures are much less down here. In Vermont it was not uncommon to have weeks at -25 to -35 degrees F. and have it hit 100 in the summer. That's around 130 degree fluctuation. Here the coldest I have experienced is about 28 degrees and the hottest 106 degrees about 80 degree difference. Sadly now 28 degrees feels like 20 below used too for me.

We’ve only ever lived in Texas, Alabama, California, and back to Texas. We never had A/C in anything until we moved back to Texas in ‘76, and our folks bought a home with central air.
We moved back to Texas with the truck and camper, neither of which had A/C, and a ‘64 Olds F-85 that also had no A/C.
There was never any A/C in either of our grandparents farmhouses.
When we came back to Texas from No Cal every summer (and yes, stickin’ to the plastic-covered truck seats any time we rode up front ;)) there were only 2 families that had A/C that we used to visit...my aunt Alice, and my mom and pops best friends. Central air at aunt Alice’s and window units at my folks friends.
I remember one year just outside of Tucson, AZ it was 118 degrees, but, it was, indeed, a dry heat...!!!!!!! :joyfull::hilarious::D;):)

ETA...
Also, IIRC, the lowest temp here since we’ve been back was 5 degrees (lowest temp ever recorded here was -2 degrees in 1949, according to the National Weather Service), and the highest, I know for a fact, has been 112 degrees twice.
So, about a 107 degree fluctuation...!!! :)

We went to the night market to get dinner last night. I've been there so many times now the vendors know my order.
It's easier to feed the kids in the hotel some nights then take them out to a restaurant when they are tired.
This man makes excellent stir fry noodles.

Gado Gado is cold vegetables with tofu and a soy based sauce, the lady knows we like it without chili.
