Wow. What a great story!
Had to take a few moments after reading and watching all that.
As the father of a son that is on both the autism and Asperger's spectrums, and has dealt with similar issues all his life, this one really hit home.

By the way, your ceiling has me intrigued. It's like there's these decorative bumpy holes in it; never seen anything like that before. Is that common in Canada?

Those are hand-plastered swirls. Very 1970's - done primarily in living rooms and dining rooms.
The rest of the ceilings throughout are flat.

We ate lunch here one day. Its in Yee Haw Junction. Building is from 1925 and was originally a trading post from late 1800's. My SO had a hamburger; the patty was at least an inch thick. I had a catfish sammie that was more than I could eat.
