Short answer: footings, piers, piles, retaining walls, etc.
Not sure if you know that MK is built 14ft. above natural grade to keep the utilidors above the water table, which is, essentially, pretty much at natural grade. They used fill that was dug out from Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake to build it up that high...!!! :)

Wow! Didn't have a clue about any of that. (I gotta get out more . . . ;) )

I didn't get a Montgomery Wards Catalog based on my memory, but I remembered Toyland at Farm N Fleet. If I did look at Montgomery Ward's Catalog, it had to be very early in my life because My younger brother was little when Montogery Wards closed its Catalog businesses.

I didn't remember a Montgomery Wards near me either, but I remembered Woolworths and Zayre.

I remembered Farm n fleet store well. My younger brother and I went there as kids. South Eastern Wisconsin has a Farm N fleet since the 1980s at least.

We had Woolworth's and Zayres, too. I loved Woolworths--they had everything. I mean, you could buy gloves and scarves on the first floor, sit at a lunch counter and get a hot dog and soda, and then go upstairs to the 2nd floor and buy a hamster! :hilarious: (No, I'm not making that up--parakeets and hamsters on 2nd floor, along with more clothing, housewares, etc.) That place had real CLASS!! :p

It is a little better, but, the contacts that they talked me into "trying" have not even arrived yet. Almost a month ago they were allegedly ordered. I guess my vision is not anyone's priority. At least the price is right.

Probably lame question, but can you call whomever (nurse, etc.) that might have ordered the lenses to see if he/she has any delivery date?

I've already talked to them twice and the get the same answer each time. The supplier hasn't sent them out yet! Typical run around excuse. They will show up eventually. Hopefully I will still be alive at that point. I guess if I'm not, it will have stopped being an issue by then.

Hmm. No like for any of that. Fingers crossed that the lens will show up this week for you.

It's ok, I can see well enough that it isn't stopping me from doing anything that I want to do, just frustrating. This has been one awful year. My retirement accounts lost 4K in value in one month... almost 6K for the year. (in that super strong, never been better economy I keep hearing about) My health though not life threatening has been one thing after another. Now it appears that the rental complex is attempting to push me out because I have one of the last, non-upgraded apartments in the complex where the turnover has been so high that they have been able to update all but 30 apartments (out of 147) in the past year and a half. Also in their highly intellectual management procedures have over half of them still empty. All they have done is cosmetic things that in some cases, was not needed just to justify the $200 to $300 per month increase in rents. They are only offering a 6 month lease now and are able to raise the rent every 6 months. So it looks like I am going to have to start looking for another place to live. That's how they treat someone that has been here for 8 years, paid my rent on the first of the month every single month that I have been here. Do some of my own repairs in many cases and have never had anyone complain about me nor have I complained about anyone else. I have been very low maintenance, but, I don't pay as much as the new apartments do. So one more disruption in my life is here again. I'm getting tired.

Oh carp. That's lousey. Rented (never owned) ever since I moved out at 22, after my jr. college years & first full-time job. Lived in many places since and have had all kinds of management company landlords, sole proprietor landlords, and everything in between. I feel your pain. The last place we were in, was for 16 years, and the owner decided to sell it--we (and 2 other floors of tenants) were kicked out.

I look at nothing as permanent anymore, even though I want it to be. Even now, I try to always lighten up with possessions, so that I won't have to deal with getting rid of, or boxing up/moving extra stuff,, if something changes in living arrangements. It's nothing I dwell upon, but it's always somewhere in the back of my mind.

Just keep your eyes open and look around for other possible places, if need be. (Would advise against, or at least be very leery of , postings on Cragslist--some people up here have been "taken" for security deposits, etc., and ending up with a non-existent apt.) Another thought is to check in with AARP to see if they have any leads, or from a local church (if you attend any one). Not sure if any senior communities might be up your alley, or if you prefer to just live in a mixed community, as you presently do. Hang in there--something will work out for you.

Yesterday was a busy day at my house. We went to our local dead mall to dee The Nutracker. And when I say dead, I mean dead. Look. This is at 2 pm on a Saturday.

The busiest spot at the moment was the Auntie Anne’s that we had just purchased pretzels from. Very sad. No more anchor stores. There is an American Eagle, Payless shoes, Vicoria Secret,Kay Jewelers, and Bath & Body Works that were open on that side. The other stores were a nail and hair salon.

In any case we all really liked the movie. The story is different from the ballet production. I usually don’t like when stories are changed, but I was fine with it. It was a fantasy film. I think Christmas time would have been a better release time for it though.

In the afternoon the cheer teams at the school youngest goes to showed off their new routines. Youngest’s group was fantastic. Best they had done since they started learning the routine.
