How bad can it be. He's the type of kid that when I can't find him is usually under his covers reading something. Besides it will be nice doing yoga with him.Why am I not surprised that you picked up a big challenge like this -- in addition to all the other stuff you do??!

Never occurred to me that it should be any other way. BLANK % of the total bill. The wait staff is not responsible for the tax charged or the prices for the meal. Plus for the few pennies it costs why go through all the trouble to figure it out. That is putting a little to fine a definition on one's generosity.Thats something that baffles me of the USA. Everywhere I've been.. they round the prices after taxes.
On a random note, does anyone else do a tip on a check at a restaurant so it adds up to an exact dollar amount on the final total or is it just me? Just me? Kay.
I believe it is illegal in PA to use handheld phones while driving.Glad to hear that Georgia passed that law. I think there are 16 states with similar laws now. In MA, advocates for safety have been pushing for this for years (to date, the only clear distinction is for drivers under 18, who can be pulled over for either talking on the phone or texting while driving).
Apparently the roadblock (so to speak) is the possibility about racial profiling--pulling over someone on a phone, as an excuse to just pull them over. So the proposed bill always gets stuck in the Legislature. Sad, because all they'd have to do is just amend the proposed bill, keeping the "hands free" aspect. If that got passed, then the profiling issue wouldn't happen--as no one would be seen holding a phone while driving. It wouldn't be ideal, but certainly better than what we (don't) have now.

I noticed more and more lately, that the restaurants are putting a "guide" on the check breaking down the different percentages. Man, are we getting lazy or what. A 20%** amount is pretty easy to figure out in one's head and it stops the rounding up which further penalizes the wait staff. If someone is petty enough to use the lower numbers, they should have to figure it out.
Or even simpler... do 10% and double it.

I just multiply the first number or 2 by 2, and then I will subtract the change from 100 so I can come up with zero in the change column. So if the bill is 20.46 I will multiply the 20 by 2 and move the decimal over to the left and that is 4. And then I know to make 100 64 added to 46. Hmm didn't explain this well.I think the guide is two-fold. One, it is a subtle hint to please tip the server appropriately (some people really don't know how much to tip, so it's welcome to them). The other reason is not so much about laziness, but many people struggle with even simple math (I do . . .) so I like it.
Having said all that, I can still figure it out on my own, but it takes me a while. (An hour after the meal is done, MinnieM123 is still sitting there calculating the tip . . .)

Why did he decide to do his classes at home? Is it online through the district? Homeschooling is so popular where I live now that the district actually just started its own online school. I am guessing all through webcams in the classes. A lot of the homework is sent online anyway. I guess it is a natural progression. We still choose our own curriculum although some classes are computer based through private companies.

My kids do extracurricular activities with other kids. I figure school is for education. They can get their socialization when the seriousness is done. It is not right for every kid though, but my kids prefer it. I like that I get more time with them.Just a general question about homeschooling -- do kids at home miss the other kids, (that they'd normally see if in a regular school classroom)? I'm just trying to figure out if that part of the learning experience is as important, of if (after either the homeschool day, or regular school day) kids still get together--either in sports at a school or town sponsored league, or in other social venues such as clubs, etc. I'm only asking because I only went to regular schools, and I don't know anyone that had homeschooling, when I grew up.

Oh, so that's what that thing is for. Last year, hubs gave me a smart (type) phone. All I really use on it is the bus and train app to see if they're running on time, for my commute to work. All those other colorful square things on the screen, I avoid.![]()
Well, that's better than the other way around, right?I'm choosing to no longer believe DHS wait times today.
TofT said 30. It actually went straight to the library.
TSM said 45. No way is this 45. We've waited 15 and we're more than halfway through.
I went to my grocery store this morning and for the first time in forever, they had fresh corn on the cob in the husk!! I was so excited....and it was like 43 cents a piece which is CHEAP for here. So I bought some for dinner tomorrow!! I can't wait!Happy farm Market Saturdayokra is in season
I think a LOT of people have a problem with calculating the tip. Here, we don't tip because servers earn a normal wage and don't depend on the tip. But it's actually really simple...all you have to do is move the decimal over one, then double it. So if you have a bill for 38.42, you just take the 38 and 10% is 3.8, which then I round up to 4....4 times 2 is 8. So add 7 or 8 bucks and you're good. Easy beans.I think the guide is two-fold.
