Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
DisneyWorld question:
Weeks or even months ago I booked all my Nov. DW dining reservations on the first day of eligibility. I booked online at My Disney Experience. I reserved something at AK and Epcot I liked but "Be Our Guest" was not available.......seemingly already booked. Now that our Disney vacation is getting closer(early Nov.) my wife is starting to think about it. She texted me: "Can we eat at Beauty and the Beast Castle for lunch or dinner?" I texted back that "I know my wife....I know that is what you hope for....and on the first day I was eligible to book I tried "Be Our Guest" first but it was all booked up." She texted back w/ an emoji
#1 Can people still book the old fashion way?.....with the representative on the phone?
#2 If yes....Would there be any point for me to call every once in awhile in case there are CANCELATIONS?o_O Any chance I could still swap my Tony's Town Square reservation and slide into a lunch or dinner spot at Be Our Guest????

My DD booked several BoG for our upcoming trip. She also stalked better times. She checks for both FP+ and ADRs multiple times a day. BOG also beyond daily check at the 30 days out when people dump their entire Disney trips forward to your date. Guests seem to book trips hoping they can go on a regular basis and then dump the entire reservation at the last minute to get a total refund. For both FPs and ADRs most are achievable. For BOG as we approach the 24 hour requirement we will dump many of the BOG reservations we hold as an example. This is a long trip for us and not knowing how weather will be, when we will hit the various Water Parks etc., because of weather unknown, we have reservations as backups that will be someones blessing a few days out. Most don't keep checking. Some do. We have a FoP and a Slinky that we are still trying to move around along with a freak'n Test Track, 3 of the more challenging reservations, BoG was not a challenge for my DD what so ever...keep trying.

The attention to detail is not lost on me -- that first photo with the greenery & floral accents in the white napkin really caught my eye. (Well . . . delicious food first, of course, then the accents . . . ;) )

I went to a fair over the weekend......first one even though the same fair has been around all my life. My aunt used to have a family party during the fair weekend less than a mile away and still never went. It was interesting. I don't do drive away rides so that was out. But I don't think I would go back to be honest.

DH is driving me nuts!! We have such different planning styles. The Harry Potter package JUST opened up for 2019 dates on the Universal site...I've been keeping an eye out, because that's the one we wanted to do. So I checked today, and it was up. So I price it out, send it to DH and tell him what it includes, and tell him we need to figure out what dates exactly we want. And now our whole plan is wonky again. He doesn't want to splurge on staying at the Poly, even for a night, and he thinks there's got to be a way to get Magical express to the airport without having a flight so we can rent a car there instead of at Disney, so we wouldn't need to go back to Disney after Universal Studios.
And he doesn't think the photo package is worth it for the HP package, so we're not doing the HP package. And he doesn't want to pay much for a hotel between our Disney and Universal stays...we're taking a few rest days. So now he's looking at cheap hotels. Last time he did this, we ended up in the carp hotel in Cologne. But this will be 4 nights instead of just one, and if the place he picks isn't decent, there won't be anything else available last minute, so we'll be stuck there.
The thing about hubby is that he has a really high IQ...he's very smart and logical. But he's also much more of an "efficiency" planner, where I'm more emotionally motivated...I choose things because they MEAN something to me, or because I want a certain experience. HE chooses things because of how inexpensive and convenient they are. So now my carefully researched and thought out plan to cover all the bases has been thrown into the wind in favor of saving some extra money. But at what emotional cost? We PROMISED the kids we were going to stay at the Poly for one night....now he's decided that staying at Universal's version of the Poly is an acceptable replacement. So now -I- get to tell the kids in the morning that we don't get to do that after all. I think I might actually make HIM break that promise himself. It's his decision, he can deal with the consequences.
Luckily I am in charge of travel arrangements in my house. I think the photo package might be a good deal for you since you never go, unless your kids don't like taking pictures, which from what I have seen is not true. I get him not wanting to stay at the Poly for one night. It is super duper expensive and with his mind he probably sees it wasteful to spend over $600 for a room that won't get used. (I will run and hide after that remark). I can understand wanting the ambience, using the facilities, but I get his point too. You could make restaurant reservations for Kona or Ohana. I know it isn't the same. We have downgraded our resort stays a lot since first going. We used to stay deluxe for years, usually The Boardwalk. Then we realized we could go twice a year if we went moderate. But I understand you never go, so you really want to have "an experience". It's a tough position to be in with a husband that doesn't see eye to eye with you on this. Who knows though, he may come around. Remember, he didn't want to take this trip originally I think, and now you are going. Maybe some guilt from the kids will help.

At the Arboretum we wandered through the many gardens including the rose gardens, the Japanese garden, and the Chinese garden. Early on we didn’t see many other people which was a major benefit of going so early in the day by the time we left it was getting more crowded. For lunch we stopped at Portillos, I have included my meatball sub, brad got the beef sandwich and my niece got chicken parmigiana.

Friday finished up with our towns festival’s horseparade, takeout Chinese (we picked it up after Portillos), and the movie Eddie the Eagle.

Saturday morning was a lazy morning with pancakes and bacon. Then we went down to Main Street to check out what was going on for the festival. We looked at crafts, voted on a pickle making contest, votes on the quilts in the quilt show, and ate some
Good BBQ chicken. We also played Bingo and I won two tens of dollars ($20)! That night we watched the tractor parade, cooked pizza at home. Oh she also made banana cream pies for our church for the pie and ice cream social the next day. While she did that I premade sloppy joes and Mac and cheese for Sunday lunch, I let her help with the Mac and cheese. Then she picked the movie for the night, it was Sound of Music and our town also had fireworks that night and we just had to walk to the end of the block to watch.

Sunday was the main parade that we watched with her parents and some friends of mine. Hubs had to be in the parade but joined us for dessert later. It was a good but busy weekend. We also played a lot of Skip-bo (it’s a card game.).

In this stack is a winning board!

Hubs float, notice his shirt it is a Frontierland one. The theme of the parade was western.

We don't do drive away fair rides either for what they rack up per ticker we could go to Hershey for the day

Who turned off summer?:cautious::cautious::cautious::cautious: 70, damp and breezy is not how I planned on spending today:grumpy::grumpy::grumpy::grumpy::grumpy:
You are my friend so I feel safe to point out that 70 and damp is not as bad as 93 and damp. This Thursday and Fri. are predicted to be 2 of the nicest days of the summer by Philadelphia forecasters. I hope that becomes true for you as well.
Think happy thoughts my friend! :)
In Dec. you'd be grateful for 70 degrees.
