DS's wrist is broken. It took AGES at the ER. DH took him to the doctor, but he couldn't tell if it was broken or not, so he sent us to the hospital for an x-ray. DH picked me up and we all went together. They confirmed a break and sent us to the ER, where we waited for 20 minutes and then someone came, took us to a room, asked some questions, then gave him some paracetamol and a sling and a hospital bracelet. (That one worried me...they told us he couldn't eat or drink anything in case he needed surgery, then gave him a bracelet. I thought they were going to admit him)
They sent us back to the waiting room and we waited for like an hour, hour and a half. They FINALLY came and got us, took us to another room, asked a bunch more questions and then apologized for how long it took. They had told us when we got there that it was REALLY busy, but apparently there was a miscommunication and they thought someone had already seen him. They never did show us the x-ray. So they explained that it had broken and was not straight, so they needed to set the bone. The problem was how to do that because he was already in so much pain, they didn't want to make it any more traumatic for him because he was really upset. So they left us again and said they'd be right back.

And then we sat there for another half hour or so. They came back and said they were going to cast him. I asked if that would cause problems with the bone not being straight.. So the doctor came and talked to me while DH distracted DS. She said they were going to set it without him knowing beforehand. THey'd just give it a nudge while they were wrapping it. It made me nervous, but she said the only other option was to wait until they could do it surgically, which would be at about 3:00 am. They thought, given his autism, etc....that it was better to try and set it as they wrapped. So that's what they did, and I had to be taken out and laid down because they thought I was going to pass out. Apparently I didn't look well, and the doctor asked me if I was ok, I admitted I felt funny, and they whisked me away. DS handled it better than I did. After they wrapped it, they did another x-ray to check that they had gotten it set, and we have to go back in the morning for one more check. If it didn't set right, he'll probably have to have it done surgically. So prayers and pixie dust that they got it set right.
When he was released, we let him choose where he wanted to eat. He was so brave, he totally earned it, and we were all STARVING because we got the call from the school at 11:30, and it was 4:30 before we were released. None of us had gotten lunch, and it was almost dinner time. So we ended up at McDonalds for some comfort food. And now DS is resting while he watches some TV. DH is napping because we're all drained and he was on the computer and kept falling asleep, so I told him just to let it go!

So, tomorrow morning, hospital. Tomorrow afternoon, pick up DD from camp. Tomorrow night, NOTHING. Please! Let us not need surgery so we can just stay home and veg!!
Sending lots of prayers,{{HUGS}} and pixie dust

Geez. As soon as I read that he broke his wrist, I wondered how he would handle it. I can tell you my brother would not handle that well at all. Kid doesn't even like being sick. Here's hoping for no surgery, for all of your sakes. I know when I had my torn ligament in my thumb, it was almost as hard on my mom as it was on me.
My older ds was playing football on a field trip we didn't go on. It was for teachers, aides and student teachers. Anyway seeing we didn't go of course he was playing nerf tag football and his lip got split so bad they had to take him to the ER. Not my finest hour of panic. Long story short he's with his teacher and they're laughing even with him holding a compress on his face. I was way more worried about how he was handling the pain and blood. Sometimes kids do better than us.

@figmentfan423 I found a new use for teenage boys.

Take them to the grocery store. Have them push the cart around. Have them load everything into the car. Then have them unload everything and put it away.

Why didn't I think of this ages ago?:hilarious:
You have much to learn young Padawan. They can also be trained to clean bathrooms, do dishes, mow the lawn and shovel snow;)

My wife has a Honda Accord. She's had it just over two years. She is really happy with it. View attachment 288754
I test drove the Accord as well, but...I can get more features on the Civic for a lower price.

This one has interior leather, remote keyless entry, and Android Auto. But the real feature I like is Honda lane keep. You flip on your right turn signal, and a camera flips on to show the lane to your right. I saw that, and I was like, "What the heck? I love this." And the Accords don't have it! Being only five feet tall, that feature is amazing.

I've also always had leather interior cars and really wanted leather, and this model runs about $23,000 and has leather. The Accords...you have to go higher to get leather.

For me, this will work.

For sure get the one in your driveway. Get the Civic. :)
I was not trying to sway you to switch to the Accord.
I'm just sayin' that Hondas are good cars ;)

Sorry it was broken and I hope it heals correctly. Is it his dominant hand? That would be a complete bummer. I hope you are feeling up to par now too.

So my dad advised me to go give it back, and then tell them the price I want to pay, and then have them call him to negotiate. Wonderful.
