 Just my opinion (about your school system--not about you, or perhaps most of the parents), but I think if they just let the kids takes the tests without all this build-up, the kids would be fine.

When I was in grade school, I don't ever recall having conversations like this with my parents about any tests, including final exams. My mother made no extra effort to make sure my breakfast was brain food that day (actually, I loved baloney sandwiches on white bread back then . . . even for breakfast sometimes --which may explain a lot about me . . . :hilarious::hilarious:).

If there was a test, I'd go to school and take the test. Some I passed with high marks, and others I failed. But I figured it out all by myself at the time--good grades on tests meant that I was doing something right. Bad grades on a test meant that I had to study harder next time. Not rocket science.

And I wasn't consoled by parents the night before, nor did I have a celebration after the tests were done. I came home from school and went out to play with my little pals. (Never cared that I didn't make it into Mensa either! :p )

So I made a Target run while one dd had a 2 hour gymnastics class today for trailer supplies. I watched the video that @figmentfan423 posted yesterday and it made me think. We are not getting housekeeping so there won’t be towel changes or bedsheet changes. Plus, I don’t know how they wash their stuff. Maybe a little OCD here but I took advantage of 15% off bedding and bought bedsheets for all the kids, new fuzzy blankets, and new towels. Also bought hand soap and cleaning wipes. I have a separate luggage filled with that stuff now. Not sure if dh was happy I watched that video.

Since I’m now finally home after work and baseball game, and T is sleeping.. I read the paper again.

It stresses that the testing is an achievement test NOT a proficiency test. The kids do not prepare for the testing because it is not just based on what they’ve been taught, but on the main subjects and what they know, their criticical thinking, ability to learn..and including what hasn’t yet been/isn’t introduced in the classroom.
I think schools must just do this to stress out the parents. ;) Kidding, sort of.

From what it says in the letter, the state required testing in schools is a proficiency test, based on what the kids have been taught in the classroom. (Which I guess is why schools prepare for those tests).

Does this sound correct to those of you with experience? @ajrwdwgirl ?

I guess I’ll get the full explanation tomorrow of how T’s results will impact his future, or what we should/can do to improve if needed.

It was chilly. I can see if it is warm how it could be nice.

One Saturday, many years ago when our kiddos were still pretty little, we went to Schlitterbahn with another family (about a 75 min. drive south of Austin in New Braunfels, Texas - we actually went often back then).
There was a chance of rain predicted, but, no t-storms, etc. it was sunny and warm when we left the house. By the time we arrived, later that morning, it was getting really warm, but, starting to cloud up.
We got lockers for all our stuff and reserved a coupla' tables under solid cover, and headed out to enjoy the park for the day.
It just kept clouding up...quickly. And then it started to rain. Lightly, at first, but, then a pretty steady mild downpour, to pretty much down pouring, but, with no lightning whatsoever...It all just felt so good in the heat, and the six kiddos and us four adults were all lovin' it...we were in a water park, and getting soaked by the rides, as well as with warm rain all late morning long, into early afternoon everywhere we went (except our cover)...it was a BLAST...!!!!!!! :joyfull:

Then came the announcement...
They were having to close the park because of potential impending flooding in the area, and not wanting to endanger any park guests or employees. Local smaller waterways and roads were on the verge of becoming dangerous.
They told us all to gather our things and head to the ticket booths at our earliest convenience for rain checks. And, it wasn't crazy at all...very orderly...but, also, a lot of folks had already left because of the rain...! ;)
We were also told this was the first time in the history of the park they ever gave out rain checks even though they had always been prepared to.
Needless to say, both of our families returned later that summer for a full, sunny, BLAST of a day at Schlitterbahn...!!!!!!! :joyfull: :)
Such great memories...!!!!!

Sounds about right. It should be interesting to hear what you find out though.

What I do for wasps is get a stiff paper like a post card and use another piece of paper to sweep it onto it. Then I will flush it.

I've posted this here before, but, many years ago DWifey and I were at a wedding reception at a local country club having drinks out on the deck. There were yellow jackets (wasps) cruising around because of all the sweet beverages around (alcoholic or not) as per usual for this time of year.
Many, many, times over the years, I have been able to swat them to the ground with my hand to stun 'em and step on 'em. I had already gotten at least two at this point (and, I may, or may not, have had a coupla' drinks by this point... :cyclops: ;)) then another kept buzzin' around.
I waited for my opportunity, then took my swat...GOT 'EM!!!!! :joyfull:
Got 'em alright...unfortunately, when I swatted, for some stupid reason (booze, maybe...?! :cautious: :hilarious:) I also grasped...in the split second I realized what I had done, it had just got me as I threw it hard to the deck, and smushed it...!!! :hilarious:
Stung me good right in that fleshy part between the third and fourth fingers on my right hand.
Fortunately, I'm not allergic to bee or wasp stings, and it was only a mild annoyance for maybe an hour, at the most. Plus, you know, booze...!!!!! :hilarious:
Plus, I've been stung so many times over the years, maybe I've built up somewhat of an immunity...? :cyclops: ;)

Our sun disappeared. Massive house cleaning this weekend, since it will be time to PACK!!!!!! I cannot leave a house messy when we go away.
The like is for being close enough to pack. One trip I didn't get to do a good cleaning before we left. Long story shortish I had to finish costume for SWW, field day, concerts, school awards, special Olympics etc. I almost didn't mind coming home and having to do a bit extra. We made SWW:joyfull:
