Well, I kind of splurged tonight. My mom has a DSLR, and I borrowed it for my California trip, and I've really been wanting my own (she's usually pretty nice about letting me borrow hers but sometimes she says no, which is fair), but they usually run in the $700s, and I just couldn't do that. Well, I've been browsing Amazon, and they had an updated model of her camera. Normally $750...$500. As a Cyber Monday Deals Week sale. I was not going to find a better deal than that, so I jumped on it. It has full HD, WiFi, and can even shoot video. That's more than hers can do. And considering hers it about 7 years old and going strong, I'd say it'll last. Coming Monday, very excited. :D
I bought my first DSLR last year - I'm head over heels for it! (I got a refurbed Canon t5) I'm hoping Santa brings me a 75-300mm lens for Christmas. ;)

Watching the geyser errupt from your balcony sounds amazing! I love experiences like that, I would much rather spend my money doing something fun than buying new shoes etc.
Your dinner drink looked very tasty, I was a bit surprised it was so pink when it had crème de cacao in it. Do they just make it pink with food coloring?

The color was from the creme de almond, that liqueur typically has a pink color. It was really tasty. For many years my family would make ice cream dinner drinks on Christmas Eve or on Christmas Day, we have gotten out of that habit. But that restaurant that hubs and I went to last night makes a variety of ice cream drinks and we like to go there at Christmas because the food is good, the ice cream drinks, and it is nicely decorated. The restaurant is situated on the a river too so there are typically nice views.

I read it for the same reason, lol. Honestly I read all three books. I skipped over most of the smut scenes though (they got really repetitive) and what's left over is a story about a boy that gets angry if he doesn't get his way and a girl who doesn't have any direction in life and their codependent relationship. I'm normally a book hoarder, but those ones went quickly in the donate pile.

I read all three books too, I checked them out from the library so I didn't have to pay for them. I too wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I skipped over all the smut scenes too, that isn't my deal. I thought the story was okay but not strongly written, there are better romance stories out there.

That restaurant sounds super nice, offering fun drinks, good food and nice views. Thank you for sharing.

Starting to finally shake off this stupid cold I've had for 8 days now. (Everyone around here has it.) Needless to say, I've gone through a ton of Kleenex.

Now, my dog has hit an all-time low--even for him--even with all his boorish behavior over the years. (Note: He loves any trash basket, because he thinks they're his toy boxes. ) So his latest treasure hunts have included pulling out all of my USED Kleenex from the baskets! I come home from work and find bits and pieces of Kleenex all over the house. It is beyond my comprehension why he want to play with, and EAT, my rhinovirus-infused SNOT RAGS??!!! :jawdrop:  :hungover: Gaaackkkk attack!

Sorry to hear about your colds. They are truly miserable. I hope you can get some rest this weekend and get ride of it completely.

Kapono will sometimes rip apart Kleenexes or napkins but not as much as when she was a puppy and only if she finds one. When she was a puppy she would pull the Kleenexes that popped up out of the box out, one right after another. I think she thought it was a game. Our old dog Henry loved used and unused tissues, napkins, and other paper based products. He liked digging into the trash cans to find them, especially the bathroom since that's where most of them were. We ended up putting our kitchen trash can on a crate so it was up higher and bought a bathroom can with a cover so he couldn't get into them. Strangely he never pulled the toilet paper off the roll. And like Jack he preferred anything used.....yucky!:hungover:

My husband has started feeding the birds and the squirrels in our backyard. I have nothing against looking out for the wildlife, however years ago when we did this, it attracted the rats. Thankfully, so far that has not happened again. My husband tells me not to be so negative. I, on the other hand am just being realistic. Living in Chicago, with all it's problems will do that to person. Especially when neighbors can't even do a simple thing like keeping the lids on their garbage cans.

Eeek, I'm with you I wouldn't want the rats either. I hope they stay away!

I can stand almost any of nature except rats and things with more than 6 legs. (Oh...and cockroaches...the nasty kind.)

Rats, mice and bats (especially bats, I mean they are rats that can fly:eek::hungover:) are my ickies. I would rather have bugs.
HAHAHA...we have bats like crazy (we live surrounded by acres of woods...so bats and mosquitoes are the bane of our lives). We even had one get in the house and we were screaming and laughing like Dan Akroyd and John Candy in The Great Outdoors trying to get the thing out! :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

Mice...we have tons of those too, but they're cute little field mice (think Jerry from Tom & Jerry), so they don't phase me.

We had a bat in our house once, and I and the dog we had at the time totally freaked out. Another got on our porch, and again I freaked out. Both times hubby dealt with it. The Orkin man was called both times and inspected and didn't see any signs of them living in our house but more of a freak thing. He recommended putting moth balls out, so we have moth balls hanging around the inside of the porch. I don't like the smell but it is 100% better than a bat. This summer in the middle of the day a bat flew into the screen on my porch and yes I freaked out and saw it fly back to our neighbor's pine trees (I guess they like pine trees). The moth balls went out in full force after that, once I went back outside. Icky, this gives me the heebie-jeebies just thinking about it.

We were ASLEEP in bed when the bat started freaking flying around the room! I have a high bed, so it literally felt like it was inches from my face...TOTALLY ICKY.

I'm going to look at artificial trees later...any advice? I'm super nervous as I've never had a fake tree before and I'm pretty particular about trees...

We've had one for a few years now. My advice would be to find the one you think looks nice without anything on it but the lights. Also, get one with lights, lol.

We got those scent stuck things but they only really give off a tree smell for a week so I think you can skip those.

HAHAHAHA!!! I already got a 6-pack of them! I have to have the tree smell...even if I have to replace the stick things. You would think they would make them at least pretty?
