Good morning and if I haven't said it thnx for getting me through my dh being on nights. Now for some good news no nights until supposedly well into New YearEven better he's going to keep human hours for the most part
he's leaving in a few minutes![]()
That's so nice! Thank you, but I think I've got most everything we actually need for Christmas, so I can't really justify it. Thank you, though!@Songbird76 I did receive a 20% off promo code for PB Teen. I would be happy to give it to you if you want.![]()
Thank you and that shouldn't happen because everybody has to put holiday hours in by tomorrowThat's awesome!! Congrats! I hope they don't pull another switcheroo on you!
That's good. At least you were able to compromise and work it out. People get upset about some pretty strange things, but I can understand wanting time with family. How close are you to them? Do you get to see them often outside of the holidays?I think she was genuinely upset because at the time it seemed that she wouldn't be able to see us for the holiday and she cares deeply about having her family all together for the holiday. I don't doubt that she wants us to have fun in Disney! I'll admit I wasn't expecting anger as a response at all, but once she cooled down and we had a chance to compare schedules, we came up with a plan that made everyone happy![]()
Great news! I hope it all works out! And yay for good deals! I'm betting it all put you in a pretty good mood!I stopped at Walgreens to buy a string of lights for my Christmas tree, and they were buy one, get 1/2 off. I also picked up some cute learning toys for my great neice's little boy. They were buy 2 get the third one free. My visit to Walgreen's proceeded my trip to the eye doctor. He scheduled my next eye doctor appointment for the day after my cardiologist visit. Hopefully I will get the AOK for my 2nd cataract procedure by then. It will be nice to have that all done and behind me.
You said you take the train into Chicago, right? How long of a train ride is that? We went to visit my mom's family for Christmas one year and we took the train into Chicago and went and saw the decorations in the Marshall Fields windows, etc....it was so neat. And when we went to bury my mom's ashes, we took the train in to go visit museums, since my husband had never been there. There is no train from where the family lives, so we had to drive to Crystal Lake and then I want to say it was an hour and a half ride or so. Very exciting for Wyomingites who hadn't really ever ridden on a train before.Good to know about the Disneyland outlet. We usually stop at the outlet in the Wisconsin Dells on the way down. It is a good place to get out and stretch our legs and see some Disney stuff.
I must admit we haven't explored that area too much. When we are down there our time is either spent at the sister's house or downtown. We have spent some time at the Woodfield Mall too.
Good morning it's nice to have a good chunk of one's work done by 7am![]()
That's great that they got to see it. Is there not a schedule somewhere so you know when each class would get to see it? I know when we were there, there were signs that counted down..."Next eruption in: --- minutes". I don't remember how often it erupts, but I know it's regular, so they can tell you when it's going to blow. I didn't know they had a live stream! Do you have a link? My kids would love it!So I know I've been a bit of a downer lately complaining about my in-laws so I thought I would share a cute work story with you.
If you remember (or not that is fine too) I teach 7, 8 & 9th grade science (along with a section of 7th grade social studies). Anyway, my 7th graders are finishing their Geology unit and we have been studying the water cycle, ground water, and geysers. So for the last 5-6 class periods we've had I put on the live stream through the National Park service of Old Faithful in Yellowstone. Every time we have missed seeing it's eruption. On Tuesday the first period of 7th grade science I have was able to see the eruption but it was snowy so the view wasn't the best but the kids still thought it was cool. The next section came in and I had the live stream on and broke the news that the last class got to see it so they probably wouldn't get to see it today, they were bummed but hopeful.
Well I didn't realize how much they wanted to see it. So again today I put on the Old Faithful live stream for that last bunch of 7th graders. I had it on for when they entered the classroom and I went into hall to supervise that area. All of a sudden I hear a large ruckus in the classroom and see a kid run out and tell another kid in the class to come quick and see it. All the while I'm still hearing a lot of noise, so I'm thinking some kids were fighting or something. Why else would there be so much excitement!?! So I rush into the room ready to yell at them but nope....20 some kids are gathered at the Smart Board in the front of the room cheering and jumping up and down because Old Faithful was erupting!!! What a bunch of little nerds!!It made me smile and laugh. So we watched the rest of it before starting class. I was glad that the weather was clear and they were able to see such a good eruption of the geyser especially since they were that excited about it. Now I think I'm going to do some searching for some other live streams that they might enjoy seeing, it is a nice way for them to enter the room.
Oh I forgot the group today asked me if the other class got to see as clear a view as they got and I told them no. And one kid said, "we got the better view because we are better kids." That also made me chuckle.
Sympathy like and a few hugs from a nice safe distance. Are you at least feeling better today? xoxoThis made me chuckle, because no 7 AM and done for me yesterday. The reason was that yesterday was a 15 hour day for me, due to extended meetings at work. Left home at 6 AM and got home at 8 PM (12 hours work; 3 hours commute) This was due to an unusual situation that came up at work. (Plus I've had a cold for a week now, so that doesn't help.)
Today should be a more normal day.![]()

Those lights are so cute! They look like tulips! I love Christmas decorations in the US....they don't do a whole lot here because it's not so commercialized, but it's still pretty. Nothing on the US though. And in 48 hours our Little Hamlet has transformed from ThanksGiving to Christmas. This evening my DD and I went for a walk to enjoy the beautiful lighting. Salted carmel hot chocolate. A nice family little outing in our Town Square.

Cool!!!
Yep, the 3 you mentioned were all Caramel Delights, Peanut Butter Patties, and Peanut Butter Sandwhiches when our DDs sold them.
And yep, same here on the classic, and we still continue to support...!!!![]()
Great!! He's got a group of friends, and he's super excited that he had kids to invite to his birthday party Saturday. This is the first time EVER that we didn't have to scramble to find kids he could invite and who would actually come! He had a rough day Monday...screamed at his teachers, but they were able to talk it out later. He loves it and the change in him is amazing. He actually WANTS to go to school, and he's just a happier kid all the way around. I'm so glad we made the decision we did.@Songbird76 how's your ds doing so far in his new school?
Some will never get it.
I could go on and on about all the time and treasure we and our children have spent over the years giving back to our community, but, there is no need to, and certainly not for the sake of demeaning others, as to make ourselves look superior.
Over the last coupla' days, we have been pretty much referred to as food-peddling morons by another member here. And, this same member, who uses the word "twit" for so many others, actually, seems to be the biggest twit here.
Why this person feels this is something they need to continue on our "family" thread, I have no clue. True hypocrisy...this person wonders why others have no filter, yet they have no filter either...?!?!?!
Thinly veiled condescension is no filter...it's just sad.

We always did both....we did the door to door sales, but also set up a table for the surplus. Since the cookies come in large boxes, sometimes if you've only sold 1 or 2 boxes out of that bigger box, you have a bit left over. So the best way to get rid of those is to set up a table.I don't know what it is about Girl Scout cookies, but I love them. Used to see a lot more of kids selling them, but not so much in the past few years.
Instead (up in my area at least) what I tend to see more is a group of them (with their parents) outside a grocery store on a weekend morning, with a "selling table" stocked with boxes of them. (I forget what time of year they sell these.) It made me wonder if they didn't want kids going door to door anymore to sell the cookies, for their own safety, perhaps? Just a thought.
Anyway, I always buy boxes of the thin mints--man, I LOVE those cookies (with milk)!!!![]()

Agree totally! And I am looking back trying to figure out if I've said anything that could be construed as rude and I apologize if I have. I can't find anything offensive in anyone else's posts, so I kind of assume it has to be me, though I don't think I've ever called anyone a twit. But I AM sorry if I've come across as judgmental...it certainly isn't meant so. We all do what works for us and what we can and I think we all have different ways of doing that, but no one would deny your family has done a lot for your community and kudos to you for that.My guess is it's probably a misunderstanding with (whatever member) you're referring to. That's the problem with posts at times--you can't see or hear the person, and sometimes things get misinterpreted.
What I can say is that you and your family have given so much back to your community. You've shared many good posts about all the good efforts down through the years, and I believe that every member on here can easily see that, and respect you and your family for your generosity.
