We went to see Coco this morning and had both a parenting win and a parenting fail. We were running late this morning and missed the nine am showing, but then I had a stroke or parenting genius!! I remembered that the Frozen short was twenty one minutes and was probably still going. So instead of waiting a half hour for the ten am showing, we bought tickets to the nine am showing and got to our seats in time to catch the last song from the Frozen short. So the almost three year old got to see Elsa and Anna, we didn't have to sit through the short, and we caught the movie at the time we planned to catch it. Win!!

We all loved the movie!! It was really cute and really funny. Some parts of it were a little scary for my daughter but she was really into it.

When we got to the credits though, she asked me "where's Coco, mommy?! I didn't see him"

Uhhh,.. Coco is the Grandma...

No!! Coco is a raccoon. Where's Coco mommy?!? The raccoon?!?

Ooooooh :banghead::banghead::banghead:

My daughter calls Miko from Pocahontas "miko-coco" and thought we were talking her to see a movie all about that raccoon. Fail.

Yum! Ours was good, too. Tonight we're having open faced, hot turkey sandwiches with stuffing and gravy, and also cranberry sauce. :hungry:

I’m eating leftovers now of most of the pickings.

My thanksgivings sandwich recipe.

Here is a suggestion if you have a little left over stuffing and turkey. Buy a few soft Italian sandwich rolls from bakery or grocery. When sliced they can be slightly toasted under broiler-optional.

Take some stuffing and add a bit more gravy in a bowl. Mush it with a spoon until it is spreadable with a knife. Take turkey and kinda shred it add some gravy. Warm stuffing and turkey in micro Take a handful of lettuce I prefer iceberg for this and shed/chop it finely.

Assemble

Spread cranberry sauce on each side of bread

Put layer of lettuce on bottom of bread

Smear a layer of gravy soaked stuffing for next layer

Add turkey that had gravy also atop stuffing

Top with remaining portion of roll that also had cranberry smeared on it

Eat.

I feel the same. I've had off since Wednesday and it was fantastic and much needed. I'm going to hate leaving Kapono tomorrow, oh and hubs too.;)
The worst part is always leaving the pets. ;)

I somehow picked up a stomach bug, no idea how since I've been at home the past five days, and Belle has spent basically all day taking care of me. I even went to take a bath, and she couldn't find me and started meowing for me. I let her know where I was, and she settled down outside the bathroom door. :inlove:

I wish I had tomorrow off, but no such luck. It's the last week of our fiscal year, so fun stuff. But we do get the entire week between Christmas and New Years off, so there's that. :)

Sorry to hear about your stomach bug, hope you are fully recovered. It sounds like Belle did a good job taking care of you.

We just got back from Coco. We looooved it! :):inlove:The story was fantastic. It was really well thought out. There were twists that I did not forsee. Pixar just keeps outdoing itself with the animation as well. Incredible! The historical aspects were very interesting. I am sure @Cesar R M can let us know if they got these historical elements correct. I will say that you should bring tissues if you are mildly sentimental. Apparently I am. (Dh too). ;)

The Frozen short was okay but it was not memorable. There were some cute moments though.

After the film we went to a local restaurant in the area of the theater. I was quite pleased with my veggie enchilada. :hungry:Dh got a combo steak/chicken fajita.

Honestly, if I wanted to indulge in only sea food. I usually swim right into Papadeux. Love there!

But I shall try Red Lobster next time. ( I wonder if there is one in Houston)

A quick Google search shows there are at least 3 Red Lobster restaurants in Houston, and 3 Pappadeaux. We have a Pappadeaux 5 mins. away, and a Red Lobster 10 mins. away. And, yes, I like Red Lobster, but, given the choice, I'm pickin' Pappadeaux 8-9/10 times...! ;)

I just reviewed Red Lobster and seems to have less variety shrimp wise.

I love their Mardi Grass pasta so much at Papadeux!

Well, with my MIL, she really does mean well. She just can't understand why you wouldn't like something she does...it boggles her. It's like..."But this looks so much better!" And I was also used to my mom...and my mom was 10 times worse. With my mom, I wasn't allowed to wear things if she didn't like them. Like...it was in style to "peg-leg" your pants...my mom thought it looked stupid, so I wasn't allow:D:eek:ed to. I would to it at school and then undo it before I got home. Mall bangs....not allowed. Stonewashed jeans, not allowed. There were these boots with leather fringe that were all the rage...my mom said they were for hookers. Same with leather jackets. And with my mom, if you didn't do things her way, she took it as a rejection. The biggest fights we ever had were because I told her I needed to do something MY way, that I was a different person and what worked for her, didn't always work for me. She took that as me telling her that her way was wrong and not good enough for me. And my mom got ANGRY when you disagreed with her. My MIL is pushy, but she doesn't get ANGRY. My mom would freeze me out. She basically disowned me because I wouldn't dump my boyfriend in college. She avoided me, wouldn't speak to me, and wrote me long letters detailing how much of a disappointment I was and asking why I was being so difficult and not doing what she told me to do. She wrote letters to my friends asking them to "fix" me and talk sense into me. I had learned to kind of avoid confrontation with her, so dealing with my MIL wasn't as hard. She was manipulative about things, but she wouldn't yell at me or make me feel bad for my choices. I guess that's a form of patience...but it was just...what I was used to.

I have the same issue with both my Mom and my MIL. Oy

As some Mom's age they tend to loose their filters and many just unknowingly insert themselves. Still my Dad never did have a filter, he just always said what came to mind. My Mom's favorite go to line though I'm certain she doesn't realize is YOU LIKE THAT? While she doesn't ever say she doesn't approve she makes it perfectly clear she doesn't LIKE THAT? Why else would someone look at something and say YOU LIKE THAT??? as their only comment???

My MIL is a bit more direct in her disapproval though she backdoors it. More, 'she only thinks about herself' as if her son ever cared which he never did lol or the gentle dig of I don't understand why she would do that?' Never directed at me but in front of me, more to try and change my mind by condemning me to others. Me, I dismissed as classless. I actually have had some fun with that over the years, embracing her disapproval. If MIL found something in my home she hinted at in front of others that she disapproved of I'd spotlight that embellishment more as an asset and watch her cringe. Passive aggressive but fun nonetheless. Anything she disapproved of I would outwardly adore. It was fun to see her broil over it all....

My Mom in her day did have a sense of style so lost now. My MIL was always a hodgepodge of conflicting everything so I always viewed her comments as a veil for her own shortcomings. Even her personal style. A very short, thin, tiny woman dangling 2 inch wreath earrings, jingle bell necklace to a funeral type woman. My Mom's comments these days from my wardrobe to furnishings of the home hit harder. Those YOU LIKE THAT??? comments are mean spirited, no way to couch it. I know it is an age thing, I see it, I understand the fading filter of thought to words, it still stings though. Oddly I don't see these 'comments' ever directed at sons or SILs. Seems some families have aging family Matriarchs want to condemn only those who directly follow in their footsteps. Oddly weird. The aging process is unsettling.

if hubby can drive by then almost 4 days will be spent with the inlaws.
So should we hope he can't drive?;)

The aging process is unsettling.
Amen! When I look at my mother now I get sad and scared. It is almost as if the woman who raised me is gone and this look alike has taken her place. I know it is not her fault but it can be so hard to be patient and kind when she is being so difficult and negative.

Thanksgiving break was wonderful, I'm so glad I got to be home. But unfortunately it is drawing to a close. I'll be back in New York tomorrow morning...
THNX for checking in and I'm glad you were able to make it home for Thanksgiving. I hope you get a chance to do all the touristy things like walk up 5th avenue, skate in Rockefeller, just window shop and BTW the real Santa is in Macy's

Sometimes that happens. It is sad. (Happened to my father years ago, and it wasn't easy.)

Blue is my favorite color. For a few years our tree was just completely silver and blue. We called it our Hanukkah Christmas tree. Then one year it was red, white, and blue. This year the kids were allowed to go put whatever up. While it is not the prettiest tree in terms of layout, it is beautiful to us and I don't really care what others would say. Our new tree itself is just gorgeous. I love the fake snow (flocking), and I love we can change the lights from all colorful to just all white. When it is all white it looks like a tree in Narnia.
I saw Etsy has lots of Potter robes. https://www.etsy.com/search?q=harry+potter+robe
Our tree is covered in ornaments from Hallmark(we did the age ones for both boys until they were 5 and now we get them one from a favorite movie or show, my dh usually gets SW or a ST one and mine is usually Disney), ones from places we've been and some passed down from family and some homemade ones. Threre's also a few the boys have just liked over the year(that explains a few of the platapusses) and a Disney pickle. It's a hot mess and we like it that way.

Your daughter always cracks me up! I always look forward to her "latest" in your posts.

Interesting you mentioned that 21-minute "short" (I'd call that a "LONG") of Frozen. Heard on the news this morning (yes, this actually made the morning news) that there has been a big backlash from movie-goers about the waste of time, and some of them actually thought their movie theater was showing Frozen and not Coco!! This isn't going over well . . . :cautious:

Sounds like my boys weekend except I'm sure you eat them one at a time
