Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
I have only been one time exactly on my birthday. It was fun. Back then you could wear your button and just get birthday congrats.
Oh goodness! Gotta keep that from happening. I am not telling anyone else at Disney when my birthday is. No button for me!

The second trip I actually took my button off. Still have it, it was an awesome trip but I'm a real private type of person. Yes I wore the button cause Happy Birthday is sweet. A bus load of people singing happy birthday to ya, well I could have melted, I'm not into mego displays of attention. So I took the button off. Still it was very sweet of the bus driver to attempt to bring some magic to a guest. Me, I just prefer to melt into the sunset.

Hubby's firm was like that. And he had to be in touch all the time. He retired early because of burnout. Most of the people quit early too....same disease. Business's don't care about their employ's . They work people to death, and go for someone cheaper after they are gone. No matter that people's health has suffered, they just want to wash their hand's of them and move on to the next victim. Son-in-law worked at hubby's recommendation, for the same company. It was too abusive to him....now I think back and laugh at that statement. Daughter worked for attorney's at the same place and they were like many attorney's...they want things yesterday. She worked for Oppenheimer funds and was treated much more fairly. Hubby stayed, he was abused his whole life and didn't know the difference. But, everyone in the family suffers. Don't stay where people don't value your work....in the long run it's not worth it.

Believe it was better for both the company and the employees prior to the lack of loyalty agenda.

Raises hand--I actually went to one!! i was a little kid at the time, and my parents took the family to NY City. As kids, we thought the place was a blast!! Think it was somewhere in Midtown Manhattan.
My memories of going into the city as a kid revolved around hitting a museum and then heading out for a proper meal in one of the more authentic ethnic neighborhoods. If my grandfather was with us it was usually some type of asian place and he always knew the most authentic dishes from his travels. Some were quite good but some, let's just say unusual to say the least. Eating around the world:joyfull:

@MinnieM123 did you manage to get reservations for Thanksgiving or is mother Swanson going to visit?

No Mother Swanson for us this year, thank goodness! Yes, I did find a nice restaurant (one we've been to in the past) and luckily got a reservation for 2:00 on Thanksgiving. My sister will join us.

One of my brothers (the one that doesn't cook at all) has gone to McDonald's before on Thanksgiving (depending upon where he was living at the time). Seriously--Turkey McNuggets! :hilarious: (He lives in NC, so that's why we can't invite him to join us for dinner.)

What "little" meat we get my dh knows the names of said meat:hungover:

I'm jealous. We eat a lot of meat (mostly chicken) and it's been too cost prohibitive to get farm fresh chickens :(

Not sure it is marketing. I spoke with an employee at Wegman’s which has its own organic farms. The small farmers they also get their produce from have to pay the government tens of thousands of dollars for the organic label and inspection. The food cannot have pesticides. They need to rotate crops. They need to use natural pest control methods. We grow organic in our garden at home. We use organic soil and fertilizer. It is very hard to grow organic. Of course you have chemicals in the rain pouring down, so yeah nothing is perfect, but it is better than buying produce or food that you know contains poison. I only am adamant about food quality because my mom died of an autoimmune disease which has ties towards internal inflammation. I did research on the subject and while some people may not get affected by such things, others do. Considering what happened to my mom, I assume my genetics may have a similar sensitivity as well as my kids, so anything I can do preventive wise I consider it my due diligence. :) Long post over. ;)

We never paid attention to any of it until my daughter came up allergic to a common preservative. When we realized that preservative was in over half of our food, it was a wake up call for us.

I agree with you on the organic produce. We buy most of our produce from co-ops and farmers markets and you can tell the passion and effort they put into farming organically. And you're right, there's a lot of money they put in there too. I'm referencing more the prepared and processed organic foods. Most people are unaware that organic food labels have different levels based on wording and that not all food labeled organic is completely organic.

Not with this years air pollution. Smoke and fireplace smoke drives me crazy. The subdivision next to us allows wood burning fire places. We get to smell that all winter. Then the forest fires come. This state is not good for me.

I grew up in the mountains and everyone has wood burning stoves. The smell of them, to me, is nostalgic. It reminds me of my childhood, and the woods, and Christmas. My great aunt has a house in the mountains right now, but she has to leave every winter because she's like you. The smoke gives her headaches :( and drives her crazy.

Actually, if that is what it is, it is affecting me right now. Over the last three weeks I have been unable to walk any distance without a lot of pain in what feels like my hip joint, but, apparently isn't. Nerve situations. I'm hoping that something can be done about it soon before lethargy takes over and I hit the rocking chair and shawl stage way to early.

Right at the moment nothing seems to affect it at all. It laughs at pain killers, even serious ones. One day it is everything is back to normal and the next day I can't move over 50 steps before intense pain sets in. I never know what or when it is going to happen. It's not pleasant I can tell you that right now.

I hope they get you an official diagnosis soon so you can get on a treatment plan and hopefully bring back your quality of life. I'm sorry to hear you are in so much pain.

Amazon is I believe all non-perishable though with more and more Amazon 2 hour delivery sites being built who knows in the future. The local grocery chains that deliver or pick and you just pick up will do it all. Sam's Club will pick everything in the store, you go in pay at a kiosk and roll it out.

We order a lot of perishables from Amazon. After the recent buy out of Whole Foods, you can often get organic produce and groceries on Amazon cheaper than you can get non-organic produce from the store. They don't have a huge array of produce or perishable groceries, but what they do have is pretty good!
