I hope it does happen for you. Keeping my fingers crossed. Just curious does getting out early lessen your Friday commute time. Around here Fridays are insane after 3:30.

Commute was about the same--long. And the traffic is always heavy, in and around the city for miles. Waaaayyy too many vehicles on the roads here. Depending upon what route I take (bus to train, or just the express bus only, up the highway), it always takes me anywhere from 70 - 90 minutes.

I can't like that at all. That's way too long of a commute. Does your dh have an easier time getting to and from his job?

Tomatoes that are shipped to the supermarket are picked green so they don't get squished along the way and are hit with a gas to cause them to appear ripe:jawdrop::rolleyes::cautious::brb:

Still trying to figure this out. Is there a probe they put into each one and then dispense gas into it? Are all tomatoes gassed? I don't think so--because if that was the case, wouldn't people be farting a lot? :p

I know you like your rental but can you move closer to your job?

It would cost way too much more money. We're happy here. Commute stinks, but this is a very nice place we're in. And for the record--most people who work in the city go through this type of commute every day. Just a fact of life if you work in an old city, the design of which was never made for the population that is here now.

Tomatoes go in a box and are exposed to ethaleyne(sp?) it's a concentrated version of what ripens fruits and veggies in nature. If you put green bananas in a bag with an apple it does the same thing.

YIKES and to think when I had to go into NYC I thought things were bad at 30-45 minutes. I was so happy that didn't happen too often.

Jeez, 70-90 minutes each way? That is insane. I bet it is just 20 miles, right?;) When I commuted to school in Manhattan from Queens which was 11 miles away, sometimes it would take 1 hour by car. Where we live now the traffic is minimal, and I love that.:)

My nuns favored those long wooden pointer sticks. I only got whacked once. I vaguely remember something about daydreaming, I was six. She use to pace up and down the rows of desks. She came up from behind me and walloped me in the back of my skull with the stick, very hard.

My father had a conversation with the Nun and she said it doesn't hurt much. My Dad picked up the pointer stick and asked her to turn around and he'd take a swing with the stick to the back of her head. Guess she opted out of the 'hurt' test. Didn't stop her from taking swings at kids but she never swung that stick at me again.

Ah my uncles, my mom and cousin had a big conversation about those kind of experiences over Thanksgiving. They all went to Catholic school. I'm shocked at what they got away with.

I escaped Catholic school only because our local schools were so highly rated that my parents couldn't afford both catholic school and extra courses in STEM:joyfull::joyfull::joyfull: but I did have to go to CCD which wasn't so bad because it was on Sunday morning instead of after school like the next parish over. I never got hit but one kid in my year seemed to get whacked at least twice a month for talking back and swearing, hitting was no longer allowed after 3rd grade where I lived, he spent many days in the hall after that.
Catholic School for nine long, long years and they wonder why I no longer set foot in a church anymore.

FTFY Congrats and enjoy

Thanks! This week was especially hectic with all the end of the year stuff and the rewards trip to Valleyfair (our closest amusement park). When we go the teachers I work with aren't really into rides/roller coasters but I was able to convince one of the teachers (who is the most scared of heights) to do one of the coasters. She actually had fun!

So anyway, the dog and I are enjoying a morning of quiet on the porch.:joyfull:

Yikes! 70-90 minutes! Do you do a lot of reading on the commute?

I have to return an item to Home Depot today. I bought it online, and all the reviews said that it was super easy to put together. I guess I must be stupid/incompetent/hopeless because I spent, what seemed like forever, trying to put it together, and shoved it back in the box out of frustration. It was shipped, but the email says I can take it back to my nearest store. That's just 4 blocks away, so that part is good. I have to also pick up a strainer for the attic bathroom sink. Maybe then the kids will pay better attention to what escapes down there, and I won't have to pay a plumber a 2nd time to have it rodded out.

My arm is sore from the pneumonia shot that I had a few days ago. My husband thinks shots are a waste of time/money. At least this one came with a zero copay.

My grandson's conure, Peaches, is liking her new cage. She spent the better part of yesterday investigating it. We had to rearrange part of the living room, to accommodate the cage, but I actually like our new set up better. I also did a thorough job of spraying and cleaning, so hopefully the ants will stay away.

I couldn't find a small vacuum in the store the other day, so I bought a $25 wet/dry vac. It's perfect for picking up all the seed/stuff that Peaches drops out of her new cage.

Happy Saturday.
