It,s worse than it looks. About 5-10 years ago we levelled out the whole of the garden. Where the new hole is was garden waste which has compsted and made a big dip in the lawn . Dad is just burrying some rubble and granite that has been unearthed as the side of the house has been cleared of overgrowth and muck. It will be filled in and re-grassed when we finish.

This morning I went to a different Mall. One that is in Raleigh, to do my walk. I witnessed something that I apparently was never there early enough to see. The Disney Store in the Mall has a Rope Drop ceremony at opening time all it's own. I was on the second level, looking down so wasn't right there next to the entrance.

This is how it went... A young, very cheerleaderish young lady CM came out and attempted to gather people around for the "magic" opening. She managed to get one person to stop and watch. There was this center podium with a giant lock type thing in the middle. Attached to it, on either side, was a velvet rope the stretched across the entrance. She then told the audience (one person and me upstairs) that in order to open the store they needed to get the Genie to bring over the key. This was accomplished by everyone rubbing their hands together and wishing real hard for the magic key. So the one person and about 4 CM's did just that for about 10 seconds and over from the side came another CM (excuse me, Genie) with a turban and a 2 foot key and handed it to the person. That person then placed the key into the lock and turned it and "magically" the ropes were released from the lock, dropping them to the floor and they were officially open for the day.

It made me smile. Corny as all hell, but, really a nice touch. I continued on my walk and when I went past the store I stopped in and complimented them on that show. The CM stayed in character and, of course, told me that it wasn't a show it was what was necessary to open the store. While I looked around the store they had a Disney sing along and the feature at that point was Beauty and the Beast. Another cast member grabbed a Beast Plush off the shelf and handed it to a "little Belle" that was singing and watching the screen intently, asking her if she wanted to dance with The Beast. She, of course, did.

It was probably one of the cutest things that I have ever witnessed since the time that I sang "Beautiful Brown Eyes" into a recording machine at the tender age of 4. I really don't remember doing it, but, the recording still exists and I was told I was cute as a bug in a rug. I see no reason to not believe it.

I'm hoping this is a good sign, while out for my walk I saw geese heading north:inlove: Either it's going to start warming up soon or the geese are related to @MinnieM123

For about the last year and a half when I was a CM at the Disney Store in our local mall we did almost the exact same thing to open the Store every morning. We didn't do the Genie thing or have a lock, but we had the podium and the ropes as well as a little Magical trinket for the child that was picked to repeat a Magical phrase so the ropes would drop to open the Store.
It was a lot more fun than unceremoniously just pullin' the gates back! ;) And yep, it was pretty corny, but, the Guests, especially the kiddos, always seemed to enjoy it very much...! :)

So an update since I don't think I've been on for two weeks now...

Combination of factors, with being busy and being sick. Let's start off with the being sick part so we get the bad stuff out of the way.

I've had a cough since basically getting back from WDW. I went to someone in my primary care doctor's office twice, and they told me it was just asthma. I wasn't buying that it wasn't asthma, so I made the drive and went to my allergist office, and it turns out, I've been walking around with bronchitis for the past four weeks, which certainly explains the cough, fatigue, and sleeping 10-12 hours a day more than, "Oh, it's just your asthma." So now I'm on a 17 day antibiotic course (yes, 17 days, you read that right) and oral steroids. Fun. (Not)

The job that I was initially offered ended up not working out. There were concerns from them (namely, my age and lack of experience) and from me (they only have one small Maryland office that only opened five years ago; concerned about the job security). So I've been job hunting, while also walking around sick.

Last week, I got a random message from a recruiter on LinkedIn. He had found my profile and wanted to talk about a position that he was looking to place. I gave him my number so that we could talk about it. It turned out his agency was looking to place someone at a large corporation that is headquartered in this area, only about 15 minutes from where I live. This is how the timetable went: Monday I got the message through LinkedIn, Tuesday I spoke with the recruiter over the phone, Wednesday I was in their office for an interview, Thursday I went for the interview with the client, Friday they called me and said they wanted me in for a second interview on Monday, which was yesterday. Yesterday I went in for the second interview. I got the official offer this morning which I have tentatively accepted, and I start next week assuming there are no bumps in the road in between now and then. Shouldn't be; it's basically a background check that's left and some paperwork, which the agency is mostly handling for me. This position will be great, though. It's basically an entry-level position with them looking to groom you into a manager. I met the person who used to hold the position; she isn't that much older than me and was promoted to a managerial position. Lots of advancement opportunity, The company has also been around for a long time, so the job security is good, and a family friend has worked for them for 20+ years and attested to them being a good company. Oh, and they're moving the building I'll be in, so it will be more like a 10 minute drive before long. My commute to my old job was about an hour, so this is great, especially since no expressways are involved.

Speaking of agencies, working with one has been so great. They met with me and went over the entire interview with me before I went in, reformatted my resume, told me what to emphasize based on what the company was looking for, how many other candidates were interviewing, etc. They even walked me into the interview both times. I was really feeling like I had no clue what I was doing, so the help has been great.

Basically, though, don't expect to see me around as much as when I was in college. I was able to check in more in high school just because I would get bored with homework and need a break. Now that I'll be working, well, I'm guessing I won't have that luxury. I've also been working on some hobbies ad projects that I used to not have the time or energy to do in the evenings now.

I appreciate all the nice messages. But please, no one send out a search party.:hilarious:

Congrats on the new job, and good luck with it...!!! :)

Hope ya' feel better soon, too...!!! :)

Hi! Glad you are on the mend! I have had that same stuff for the last 4 weeks too!! They asked me at urgent are if I had had asthma before. I hadn't so they diagnosed bronchitis. I was only on zpak for 5 days with cough meds and an inhaler. Do you have an inhaler? I have had to use mine several times at night. Hate that thing but lets me breathe. But, tomorrow I am going to see a dtr about my high blood pressure so I am going to mention more antibiotics for my bronchitis. Unfortunately, this past weekend mine turned into either an upper respiratory infection or just a plain old cold. I am really hating this winter! How about you?:(
Congrats on your new job!! That is awesome!! Hope everything works out for you!:)

Sympathy like.
Hope you're feelin' better...!!! :)
