I've been going to the Shedd since I was just a little tyke. My Dad brought A/C to the Shedd way back and he use to bring me backstage so I could pet the dolphins. I loved Checo. Was so sad when he passed years ago.

Today GrandDad is gone. Grandad was 84 years old and the oldest fish to live in a zoo or aquarium. Came to Shedd in 1933. He will be missed.

We stayed off site on our honeymoon in '88. Never gonna' do that again.
Then, on our first family trips in '01 and '04, when the kiddos were younger, we stayed at POR. We love that resort, but, it just isn't needed with out r current WDW vacationing style.
Of course, that will probably change in a few years.
Would also like to stay in the monorail loop resorts and WL, at some point.
Then again, Key West may become our destination of choice in the near future.
Just laid back, with no FPs, ADRs, etc. to worry about...it's 5 'O clock somewhere...and a hammock...!!!

I too really do love POR. It isn't the rooms it is the grounds the entire atmosphere. Beyond beautiful. I've stayed at all the moderates, it is my favorite and CB being my least favorite. CB has a great deal of charm but it was Disney's first stab at a moderate. It is the layout that that is mind boggling not what it has to offer. My DS loved CB pool area as a little tyke. They had not added a restaurant at that point only QS, much like what the FQ lacks now same problem with the values. I'm still hoping the FQ returns its TS restaurant, it was one of my favorites. The food rivaled any at the Deluxe resorts. 9/11 did it in. It is still intact and I hope it returns someday.

I have not stayed at a Deluxe Resort that I have not loved. Hard pressed to not acknowledge what they have to offer is better than the moderates where I stay most often. Some do have their drawbacks but I'm hard pressed to find an excuse to hate what is one step up from where we generally vacation at.

I wrestle most times we've stayed at a Deluxe with the cost. If we actually utilized the resort more than we have in the past I could probably justify it in my head. We just don't, we are normally out and about until we drop. I'm with you, I want to go back and go to a both the Poly and Contemporary once again, doing the monorail thing. Haven't done that in almost a decade. I just keep holding out hope they fix the monorail. Key is kinda like the CB to me just a quality upgrade. Love it but like CB it is poorly laid out, once again Disney's first stab at a DVC. Still the place is beyond tranquil. If you stay there my advice is to avoid the studio and go for a one bedroom. A much better experience.

Maybe so... but your discounts are about to begin. You can't do anything about your age, so you might as well suck up whatever benefits that you can derive from an uncontrollable condition.
BTW, I probably shouldn't be the one to break this to you, but, by the time you get the AARP invite, youth is but a distant memory already. You might as well smile and enjoy it.

@BuddyThomas

A dear friend of mine is married to a guy 10 years older than we are. I remember her laughing her fool head off when her hubby got his AARP invite. When I got my AARP invite I did a flashback to that day a decade before.

Yep, with only a week off, we hafta' fly, or the vast majority of our vacation would be just driving there and back. :cyclops:

That was always our problem with driving to WDW as a family. 2 days there and 2 days back. Even if we cut our 2 weeks back to 10 days there was always the long drive with kids in the car going with excitement and 2 days coming back which are not exciting. The airfare was so worth it. 4 more days and no long drives.

I was lucky enough to get to see a preview performance of SUNSET BOULEVARD this past Saturday. 40 piece orchestra live on stage. Starring Glenn Close, reviving her Tony winning role from, a few years back. Here is a video of that. She is amazing. If you are in NYC, try to get tickets. It's really an incredible night in the theatre:

I'm beyond jealous. The upside of being in the city is being so close to everything. The upside of being out in the boonies land, quiet, wild life, almost nonexistant crime, better and not crowded schools, lower cost of living. Guess which we went with

Most disappointing. :bored:
JK, LOL, and all that jazz...! ;)
So many restaurants around here that make fresh tortillas...I could just enjoy a snack of all that fresh, warm, tortilla goodness...!!! :hungry:
I do like my home made ones better but seeing I made a few very large trays ............ I did make everything else from scratch:joyfull: I make them from scratch for tacos where it really makes a difference not that my boys take long enough to taste it:cautious:

That's why my dh rolls vacation time so we can take the time to drive. My older ds doesn't handle public transportation well all the time. If it's just myself and my dh we'll most likely drive for 2 week vacation. We'll be spending less time at Disney and only need the lodging for the drive home. Extra money for a splurge meal:hungry: For the way you travel air is the way to go.

I hope you get to stay on the loop at some point even if only for a night or 2 . It's a bucket list item worth doing.

Way back when I stayed at both Poly and the Comtemporary and liked Poly better, C seemed sterile. The nights we stayed at SOG we really lucked out because using the monorail was great!

Ah yes, the AARP kiss of death mailing. :hilarious: I remember years ago when my eldest brother received his in the mail. He had a very valid question--how did AARP know that he was in that age demographic? Who sold his information to them? o_O Freaky . . . :cautious:
