Wow. There's diversity in style there. And there are varied colors, too. I only wish there was more space between each building, but aside of that, the variety gives off a neighborhood vibe. They "look" like homes--not like some sterile group of buildings all exactly the same.

Actually, as a side note to you and also to @FutureCEO , some of the ugliest, cookie-cutter developments I have seen anywhere are located along that long ride, from the Orlando Airport down to Disney. Every year when I'm en route to Disney, I look out the window of my bus or taxi and notice more and more buildings going up. (I believe it's Route 417.) I find most of those housing developments depressing to look at. And, not to mention, I've been to WDW many times down through the years, and it's sad to see a lot of the farmland bought up for these unattractive housing developments.

Yep, they are indeed kinda' packed in in most areas of the community, but, in communities like this people are usually more reserved and quiet, and really don't wanna' deal with too much yard maintenance, so it works for them.
But, as you noted, there is still also a decent amount of diversity, as well as a town square, festival and market areas, etc....! :)
And yes, those "things" on the way from MCO down to WDW are pretty gross. I understand the market for them, but, it doesn't make them any less repulsive... :depressed:

Some more pics of Seaside...! :)

In case anyone is interested, there are actually some pretty uplifting movies nominated for Best Picture this year. I just walked out of Lion, and while it wasn't as happy as Hidden Figures or La La Land, I found it to be pretty powerful.

I still want to see Moonlight and Arrival, which is a race to beat the clock where I'm from; have to catch the movies before they disappear from theaters.

There are sure ugly. Those pictures of the towns are nice though.

I had the idea of claiming my bridge tokens for taxes and put everything in order only to look up that I can't claim it. :arghh:

Sympathy like in regards to the tokens.

And yep, Seaside is pretty nice.
But, as I already posted, those things between MCO and WDW, as far as I remember too, are mostly pretty butt-ugly...!

Seeing it yet another cold morning(don't ask me how cold I'm afraid to look because the heat is up and I'm shivering) that should pair nicely with roast groundhog and fingerling potatoes, with a starter of a frisse salad with balsamic vinegarette and chocolate mousse cake and coffee with Chambord:D

It's cold but it is the strong winds that are doing us in, dropping those feel like temps. Nasty. :coldfeet:

Hope you enjoyed the roast of groundhog, what will be Sunday dinner? :p

Yah, possums realy like their "space" and intruders are not welcome. Their hissing is really scary. One time, hubs went to retrieve a ball in a wooded area, and happened upon a possum who hissed at him--he dropped the ball, screamed, and bolted out of there like lightning! :hilarious: I saw the whole thing and couldn't stop laughing.

Meanwhile, Jack was next to me and staring at the unfolding spectacle. He looked at hubs as if to say, "Why did you drop the ball? We're playing ball, remember? You're the human, go get the ball !" :p

Ha! Bet you are right about Jack!

I get what you're saying here. However, for me, it depends on how it's done.

For example, I really like the photos that Donald shared--it's because there's "style" and I think they fit in beautifully in that area--love the color, like the materials used on the street/sidewalk area (not sure if it's brick or clay there), and the vegetarion. Again, this particular example of same-designed housing works for me.

On the other hand, I've also seen some butt-ugly developments with zero character or charm--that's where I draw the line. Hate those. And it sounds like a number of those are becoming more common in your area. I wouldn't like that either.

It might also be that the price of design and building new homes has just gotten so out of hand these days, that unless you have plenty of money as a buyer, you'll probably get stuck with more unattractive, dull, cookie-cutter options. :(

Disclaimer first:Not a judgement on the necessity of more budget minded offerings more the butt ugly IMO.

Then go to the same principle and add a little charm and a different outcome.

It is all in the delivery.

Honestly, I really didn't even know they were struggling...but, with product like that...
We worked in the mall so much over those past years, that we rarely ever go there anymore.
Last time I was in there, I didn't even recognize any of the 3 CM's I saw... :cyclops:

I have a friend that works at TDS in Woodfield Mega Mall here. She is a survivor and works just enough hours to pull her bennies for her annual trip to WDW. She said it is a revolving door. While sounding fun to most their scheduling is nasty and one sided. Their on-call where you have to come if called so you can't plan anything on a day off but they don't have to call, but if they do you're AWOL....they are short staffing to make up the margins but still expect product to be out and replenished but not to neglect the guests but get it done. She really hates it but can't let loose of her bennies after all these years. TDS has closed many more stores throughout the country, another one in N. IL bit the dust last year. Thinking they are down to 4 now and two of which are downtown Chicago close to each other, one is tiny but near Union Station the other amazing. Woodfield one is painful.

Trust me, there are many different floor plans, although the color schemes may be the same in certain areas. And, they are open for certain customizations.
It is a community modeled after the precedent-setting Seaside developement in Florida (which is also very similar to Celebration).
As the architects, we are also limited by what the developer wants, as well as the HOA.
Personally, I think it's a beautiful place...! :)

Oh, and by the way, here's another color scheme in the same community...! ;)

I'd love to live in Celebration someday. Actually there a few developments near Orlando I find lovely and some are meh but a palm tree can fix some of that:D

Thank you for sharing all these photos, and I'm learning about development design from you. I never thought about the angle that many people don't want to deal with yard work, etc. That's a very valid point. I'm sure the community could appeal to a range of groups, but I'll bet that it's really popular with the retirement people, in particular.
