This surprises me, and doesn't surprise me, at the same time. No more formal dining rooms? Guess I haven't been in any modern houses; all the full-sized houses I've been in had a dining room.

On the other hand, I'm glad about this newer trend. Family lifestyles have changed a bit over the years, and so many people are working now (outside of the home). With far less time spent at home nowadays, a formal dining room doesn't have as much importance in the newer homes. Also, growing up, my parents entertained a lot (my mother was a full-time homemaker). I rarely entertain at all. People I know tend to go out to restaurants, etc., when we get together; but again, it's more that people are tuckered out from working all week. Home entertaining (for me) is on my vacation weeks through the year! :)

We still design formal dining rooms into homes upon request, but, they are requested less and less.
Also, with the climate down here, almost every single home we design has an outdoor living/dining/summer kitchen setup, because folks like to do a lot of entertaining outside.

Also, we're designing more and more home theaters where folks also like to entertain their guests as well as having dinner served during the movie.

Thus, formal dining rooms, and even formal living rooms, are just hardly ever requested to be included in most of our home designs, anymore.

And yes, those are all pics from homes we've designed. :)

Yep, even so many weeks later, this one still makes me chuckle...!!! :hilarious:
Even these way classier looking (IMHO) "cabana" tents only cost this much...

And, I'm pretty sure TWDC bought those cheap***, carpy, plastic fake palladian window tents in bulk for A LOT less than that. Completely pathetic...!!! :hilarious:

These Cabanas remind me of the emergency pop up tents that our police and fire use at 3K races or carnivals. Disney naming these a Cabana demonstrates how low our standard for acceptance has gone as guests over the years.

So Cool!

And I love the fact that there is Star Trek playing on the TV. :D
