Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
Wow. Like we don't already hear enough about the Holocaust...I've had to read Night twice and just read another book about the Holocaust, plus we watched a movie in World History (after the AP exam) and went on a field trip in middle school to see the diary of Anne Frank. Not to be insensitive because it was one of the most horrific tragedies in human history, but they definitely teach it. And teach it and teach it and teach it...

They started giving my DD via the Gifted Program Anne Frank in 4th grade. By 7th grade I was telling them No, pick a different topic. At 8-9 years old it is a heavy topic to keep assigning to the same kid over and over again.

I agree. Still every once in awhile they force a film and the soundtrack is just a fail. That is always disappointing 'cause the vocalists are beyond the best. I actually liked the soundtrack for Frozen a great deal. Then it was so overdone that there was no recovery for me, same with the product marketing for Frozen. I wasn't overly impressed with the movie, it was basically the same hard boiled, canned Disney princess movie but it was perfectly fine. The soundtrack grabbed me, it was excellent, just the overkill thereafter that got to me.
I understand, but for me the movie was out for over 2 years, before I was aware of it. I have a long way to go before I'm tired. I've only watched the movie 2 times. Yes, I'm often way behind the times!:D

Hee hee . . . I think all families do their own version of quaint, or sometimes silly vacation traditions. When we'd go on summer vacation car trips up to Maine, my father would always honk the horn three times, whenever we passed state lines of New Hampshire, and Maine. He'd yell out lame things like, "We're in New Hampshire, kids. Watch out for the cows." EVERY time . . . YEAR after YEAR . . . SAME comment, Same number of blasts on the car horn . . . (He thought it was hysterical . . . :cautious: )

Somewhere at my folks house, in a bigger-than-a-bread-basket wooden box, is quite a few pictures of us next to state welcome signs.
I always thought it was fun...! :)

Anne Frank was my first experience in the world at war, and man's inhumanity to man. I was shocked, it left an impact on me for many years. I read it in the 7th grade, school assignment.

Anne Frank was one book I never had to read. I was placed in regular English in sixth grade (or should I say misplaced; I was bored out of my mind). The Gifted classes read Anne Frank in sixth grade. I moved to the Gifted class in seventh grade. In eighth grade, the regular classes read Anne Frank. Never had to read it.

Just a general fyi only -- not everyone gets Alzheimer's. There are many things that change as people get older, but it's not always something as serious as Alzheimer's. Thought processes may slow down, etc., but that's not abnormal. A geriatric doctor explained that to our family years ago.
Maybe I should consult a geriatric doctor. I'm not sure our new Dr. has studied geriatric disorders.

So . . . I recently was informed that there will be some possible changes ahead in my (work) division. A high level executive is leaving in a few months and some (or all) of us, may or may not have jobs in the next half year or so. It just depends upon who comes in, and what that person's vision is for the department. Why does this carp always have to go down before the holidays when people are supposed to be happy?

So I'm just hanging in there for now, with the full support of all my supervisors who will advocate to find me something else, if the worst goes down, in the future. I may be doing this in due course:

Updating my resume:

And I'll note that I'm a "team player" --

And that I;m very reliable, and show up for work on time, because I have transportation --
