Glad to hear they didn't dock your pay, etc.! :)

On the other hand, good grief on the monthly public transportation gouge...not to mention all the other potential snowballing complications...!!!
With present gas prices, I'm spending only about $70 a month driving my own vehicle to work and back. Would be closer to $50-$55 if I was still drivin' Lilly Dimples.
Of course, I'm not factoring in wear and tear on the vehicle, a flat tire along the way, a potential breakdown, etc.
But, then again, I'm also very easy on my vehicles. I don't hammer them around, I start coasting way out from a known stop, so I'm easy on the brakes, I maintain them regularly, and all that jazz. I can't remember the last time I had a flat tire, etc., on a commute (so now, one will happen tomorrow  :cautious: ;)).
If I had public transportation available to my office at that price, plus all the other potential carp, I'm pretty sure I'd still opt to drive my own personal ride...! ;)

Oh, believe me, I completely understand where you're coming from. However, the cost of living up here is very high. It may surprise you that full-day parking anywhere in the vicinity of where I work in the city, would cost more than my monthly transit pass (if you're working a full-day job, 5 days a week, every month).

Some people at work drive in, but they park at (somewhat cheaper) satellite lots far away--and then they have to wait for shuttle buses to show up, to take them here!!! In other words, there's no good solution for commuting in our area. (Now, if you live within the city, itself, even on the outskirts, the public transit is cheaper. Yet, in many cases, the cost to rent or own eats up anything you've saved on your transit pass!) :depressed:

conmen probably started to "copy" the tokens. hence the need of computer esque systems with validation techniques.

That might have been one of the reasons. But, no matter what, it must have been a cheaper move to convert to electronic fares for the T. And just so you know, there are counterfeit passes with this newer system (people have been arrested), so no system is foolproof.

I thought you all might like this song, from Howard Ashman (Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors, etc -and another gay guy like me) to soothe the insane election night that I just witnessed. I might check myself into Disneyland, or a rubber room starting tomorrow. Ahhhh!

But in the meantime, before all my rights are systematically taken away, here is a beautiful song- I'm going fetal position now, Bye!:

Thank you, Buddy, for sharing that lovely song. I appreciate how you always think of us, by sharing music and Broadway play clips. You're a very nice person and glad you're a member here.

You know...I was thinking of doing this today. Of course, I think about this everyday.

I don't know if you guys have ever paid attention to the tv channels in the Disney resorts beyond the must dos. But there is station that has all the park times and plays some lovely Disney instrumental music, we use it as our nap music. Anyway, I was looking for something calming to fall asleep to last night and I remembered our Blu-Ray player is connected to the Internet so I turned it on and went to You Tube and found that someone had recorded it so I put that on and it helped me fall asleep. It let me pretend I was at my Disney resort for a bit. It is kind of crazy what is on you tube sometimes.

Even as expensive as public transportation is around here it is cheaper than driving, likely why we have so many people are on our Metra trains. By the time you factor in the cost of the vehicle lets say over 10 years. Cost of maintenance, auto insurance, gas. Plus we also have tolls. Our trains into the city also move much quicker than our expressways and tollways. Now out where I live there isn't any transportation that leads anywhere besides downtown Chicago so a major chunk of us are in cars due to lack of choice.
Which is fine as long as you don't have to have a car anyway. If you do you still have the cost of the vehicle, maintenance, auto insurance and gas (although less). So having one, if you do the math still costs you even if it is sitting in the yard. Add to that the cost of public transit and I'm not sure one is saving much in the line of money. Not having to drive is really the only incentive and time not sitting in traffic is also motivation, but, I never minded commuting unless there was terrible weather and then I would have liked to have been on the rail. Anything else provided the same anxiety. For inner city people that have no inclination to go anyplace outside of the range of public transportation it's a no brainer. For people like me, it would be just an added expense.

Thanks for the compliments. Just as I finished my project, I turned on the television to watch the election results. I stayed up pretty late to listen to the speech that Donald Trump made. I remember many past elections where the results took way longer than this one did.

My daughter gave up her car about 10 years ago. She has lived in cities since graduating from college, and found that most of her driving involved moving and reparking the car to avoid getting a ticket. Most major cities have Zip cars now, which is what she and her husband use if they have to go out of downtown or move large items. It works very well for them. They also are fine with walking or biking long distances, so don't use public transportation unless they are going more than a couple of miles, it's late at night, or the weather is bad.

When I lived in a downtown area, I also walked most places, including to a grocery a couple of blocks away. I just went more frequently. We did take the car out of the garage for our monthly trip to the beer store. ;)

still, so much to do.
I hope my computer parts arrive pronto. Getting so many crashes I can barely work.
And found out that almost all of them are related to GPU acceleration on browsers. I feel like the UVD part of my videocard is damaged. (aka any acceleration on videos and stuff = crash, but 3d acceleration works fine)
