Mmm chicken and waffles! I like to make it with boneless fried chicken br-east (or when I'm more health concious grilled chicken) but my ex makes it with regular fried chicken. Now I'm hungry!
I havent seen frankenwenie.. is it worth it?

That's sounds like lots of fun, I hope this helps your foot to improve. I had to wrap my toe that I broke in college, it was the pinky toe. It did heal, and I've had no trouble. I hope this works out great for you!So had a a check up today with my doctor nothing big. But I finally asked him to check out my foot that has been hurting since after my 2 week trip to WDW in June and it has been confirmed that it is indeed a stress fracture. No cast or boot, just have to wrap it up during the day & during activity. I'm glad I don't have to get anything more than this because I would have refused. There's no way I'm wearing a cast during my cruise....I need to wade out to the sandbar on the adult beach at Castaway Cay!
I took my Ryka's and love them. They are the best tennis shoes for me. Planning on getting a pair before the next Disney trip, you put a lot of miles on shoes at DW.I know! My boss wasn't very happy about it either. This lady is a piece of work, and has quite the reputation for being a little crazy and not easy to work with. So I guess the drama is on hold for now.
We had the two week trip to WDW and I think it happened with all the walking there. We averaged about 12 miles a day and even though I wore tennis shoes one pair probably wasn't the most supportive. I'm looking into getting some ryka walking shoes. Then we did Disneyland about a month after and even after that I have never taken time to just rest my foot.
It's worth it because it's Tim Burton but not as good as ParaNorman.I havent seen frankenwenie.. is it worth it?
It's colder but not too bad, no snow, so all is good!Sympathy like sorry you have to head back to colder weather.
Me too, it's always hard to leave the bubble.Tell me about it, I would have loved to add a few more days to our vacation
double postTell me about it, I would have loved to add a few more days to our vacation
Thanks I hope to be back in Late May, to early June.@betty rose have a safe trip home. Sorry you have to leave WDW.
We thought it was, we really could have split the pizza, except we weren't having the same. They will make each half different, but we didn't want to confuse the issue. I left 2 pieces, and so did hubby. We had it as a snack later...they have boxes to bring some back with you. We are going again in May's trip. I will say this with a caveat....Denver area has the worst pizza in the country. We don't have an educated pallet. lolThe pizza sounds yummy. Was it worth the price?
TRIP REPORT Last days!
FORT LAUDERDALE
After the final day, it was time to say Good bye to the Oasis.
After hurrying to put the tags to our bags and leave them outside.. we went to sleep. We didnt sleep much as our assigned number was very low (5). So we had to wake up pretty early.
Our waiting area was set to the Opal Theatre floor 3 (upper part), where they set a waiting rest area with some food goodies (sammiches, bread service, drinks) while our numbers were being called.
Our numbers actually were called pretty fast.. in less than 15 minutes since we set foot on it.
The disembarkation process was actually pretty fast. We just got down, find our bags (assigned by areas). The best part that our custom tags made it a breeze to find (I had a teenage mutant ninja turtles tag and my mother had a princess Merida tag printed by me).
Then we headed towards immigration, which was again pretty fast (could have been way faster if my mother had also the GLOBAL ENTRY card).
Once outside, it was time to find a cab.
We had no problem ordering a local Uber who left us at our hotel.
We thanked our Uber on the hotel.. and problems started.
Turns out.. my voucher was invalid. The company of the vouchers ILLEGALLY and without reason canceled our reservation, and there was nothing the clerk could do. Her phone did not allow long distance calls nor international ones and my phone was finally out of minutes for international calls. So I panicked and they let us use internet. We had to buy again the vouchers at a big increase of price (because the mexican peso tanked in the days we were on the cruise. Going from 16 pesos per USD to 19.50 pesos per USD.)
Anyway after the initial panic attack and talking with my boss and mother (and having to deal with 2 maxed cards). My mother used her call to pay for the new voucher and we got in.
We also gave a very strong official complain to the voucher company and their bullsh.. claim that my credit card was "set as stolen" (which is total and utter BS, since the cruise , the other hotel and tours were paid by the SAME card that was "stolen" and they had NO ISSUE. )
That was the second time they pulled that BS on me on 2 different trips. The worse is that they tell you NOTHING. Nothing via email or anything. But they sure want to keep your money!!!
Anyway, we got a room (which was pretty stale hair wise, big humidity smell), turned the A.C. and we took a shower and a nap.
Then my mother decided that we should take a tour somewhere. :|
(no surprising as she is one of those who do a "once and done" type trips)
So we decided to go visit the BONNET HOUSE. because it was the closest to the hotel and I didn't have much credit left on my third card to pay ubers. But first I wanted to eat some food. We settled for a very recommended chinese place.
So we ordered an uber.. and waited.. and waited..The weird part is that the GPS of the uber said the ubercab was right next the corner.. but we couldn't see anything.
After 15 minutes more it finally showed up and we boarded. We gave him the address for the chinese restaurant and onwards we went.
Bad idea about this guy. Not only was he pushy regarding giving him 5 stars... but he also GOT LOST.
He relied way too much on his map and gps unit (which was not working properly). And made a few turns there and here incorrectly.
After a few minutes of going back and fort and me actually telling him where to go.. We found the place and left us.. just to be disappointed..
The restaurant was closed for renovations GROAAAN.. no chinese for me
There was nothing good nearby and we were hungry as hell. So we decided to follow the map instructions that did show a lot of restaurants beach front of Fort Lauderdale, nearby of where the Bonnet House is.. The next uber was very pleasant and with good knowledge.. and got us in no time!
We got to bonnet house, which has extensive garden but not as amazing as Casa Vizcaya & Gardens.
The tour was not starting until and hour or so, so we decided to go to beachfront for food.
The Oasis of the Seas departing again (note that during the flight leaving FLL, we managed to see the sister ship.. the ALLURE of the Seas, departing as well)
Then we noticed that the printed map for foreingers.. was not printed in correct scale. The "close" restaurants according to the map, were more than 3 miles away on each side.. tons of blocks away (the map did not show most roads/avenues, etc..!).
Funny of the area.. I was taking these photos, when an old man in his 60's or 70's pointed at my camera then told me that I should be taking photos of the giant American flag that was set on the front of a huge tower of luxury apartments being built.
I was scratching my head as for what for.. I dont know if he tought we were US "patriots" from midland or something.. or dunno.
We speed up past him as my mother was puzzled as well (hey.. florida right.. something in the water..etc.. lol)
We were starving and we were started to get very angry at the whole ordeal.
We decided to just return and find whatever we could.
There were some restaurants from some of the hotels.. but they were insane for the food they offered. (50 USD burger?? really? and it looked like a simple Burger King burger with average quality!)
Then we found a place nearby that was more decent in prices..
We settled down and there was another adventure..
While we were served.. we noticed some nasty interaction between a tall young black man (mid 20's I think) with dreads roughing up and literally hitting an old white woman right a few away from the front of the restaurant we were. The restaurant we were was a bit elevated mind you.
The man seemed like he was complaining about something of his phone towards the woman (I suppose they crashed, his phone smashed and was blaming the woman). The woman told him insults and to F. off and just wanted to leave and have nothing to do with the man. But the man had been following her for blocks! Then he started to rough her, even slapping her. At that point I told the waiter to call the police.
Guess what she did.. NOTHING.. she outright ignored. I told her why she was not calling? then she tells me to use my phone.. really? I'm not American LADY!!!.
Thankfully the other woman behind me (customers) were taking photos and video. And the police were called.
Now, I dont know if this waiter simply didn't want to get in trouble, was too lazy, didn't want to get involved with police or what.. but her total utter disdain for this event baffled me. While I later apologized for telling her loudly to call the police (while the other woman was being assaulted mind you.. and she didnt show remotely interest).. She later explained that happens ALL THE TIME and they do not want to get involved.. Wow really? (seems like the whole florida man is pretty well known stereotype that actually happens).
Anyway, the police came, the black man claimed he did nothing wrong and that she damaged her phone or stuff.. Police came to the restaurant, intervened a few people.. the customers did show the video.. the man was arrested. (3 patrol cars involved, 4 officers involved, including 1 female cop).
We finished our food which was very good in my case.. and onwards we went back to bonnet house to get to the tour.
We had to wait a bit more as we were still early and we needed more people.
It was supposed to be the last for the internal part of the house. We had a facepalm moment because we could have walked thru the gardens, which had monkeys, manatees.. birds, squirrels..etc.. but not anymore. As they closed right after the last tour.
Anyway.. we got to the tour and finally we went in. (with included potty rest stop lol)
The place was not as impressive as Vizcaya, but it was very different in a case. As the owners were Artists themselves... the place was littered with a very varied amount of stuff. Mostly modern and expressionist art. Including some old collections from a lot of countries.
Similar to Vizcaya house, The bonnet houses's areas had different details compared to others and it involved a lot of animals and paints.
Mostly by the owner and the wife of him.
Both who were skilled in painting.
The place had a very nice internal garden as well. Very similar to those spanish homes you see in Mexico (with a fountain and internal covered walking areas)
Unfortunately as rule to preserve.. most of the rooms were photography free. So I couldnt take photos of inside.
But for quick purposes, going to make a small resume:
- First room was the guest entrance and room. Which was replaced and filled with the paintings done by the family over the years. There were more than 100 pieces in these rooms. Mostly watercolors. We also watched a video of the story.
- We also visited the "music" room or "guest waiting" room. It had a piano, and the details of the room were very disparate. From a detailed stone floor, to super detailed ceiling.
- the main patio (above photos) with a small fountain.
- The "art" room, which contained pictures not by artists, some rugs, painted rugs and lots of sculptures. also the areas where the artist painted and his original utensils.
- The kitchen and the different silverware/dishes/glasses ( a lot of them had animal images painted on them)
- The "hunting" and main dinning room. With extensive collection of dishes of different times and types and detailed floors and walls (including hunting and medieval style images painted on ceramic tiles).
- Then the "work" and "business" room, which was the largest in length, including a lot of very short furniture, the desk, playing set and statues. The artist really loved monkeys.
- the "bar". which was a pretty small room in bamboo with a full bar.
- the main patio overlooking the sea, the tree line and canal where Manatees live.
- The collection room, which contained a big collection of seashells and other marine stuff (mostly shells and coral).
- Adjacent to the collection room, the small flower garden.
The monkey statues for "luck" and for messages. (All the things in the house favour symmetry, so theres almost always a set of 2 sculptures or paintings with similar content.)
Main entrance Giraffe:
Random Bunny Statue:
After the house, we went outside to the main "garden" view. Which onlooks huge trees, a palm tree line, tons of Garrobos and Iguanas, A small river/lake that supposedly house Manatees. And a wooden bridge.
This area also led us to the collection room and orchid garden.
The orchid garden:
We unfortunately did not get the full tour, as the upper parts of the house were under renovation. Including the guest and main bedrooms.
We were shown photos of them anyway. Very rustic yet with tons of details and technically.. comfortable!
The Grounds:
The tour ended in the Gatekeeper and Manager's house.. where a family of afroamerican workers lived. Most of them worked their entire life (including their family) with the family.
House which lead to the store.
Outside, we were walking ready to go outside.. when we spotted this fellow.
I had more but most of them came out blurry. I forgot again to change the settings *groaan*
Also missed an adorable young raccoon sneaking some fruits from the floor.
After this, we were given a "ride" with a golfcart by one of the keepers towards the exit, as they were closing down soon.
Once outside we took an uber back to the hotel. Were we took a nap again, and a shower (I think it was 38C with thermal of 40C at the time).
After that, I ordered a pizza via online and we got ready. As tomorrow we had to wake up pretty early to go to the airport and then back home via Houston.
The flight was uneventful other than having to churn and level up the bags. Because one of our bags was 5 Lbs heavier than the limit.
Once we got everything leveled.. we paid the fee and we were good to go!.
I have to say it was the SMOOTHEST ride I ever had!
The landing on Houston was pure perfection.
Then we had a small lunch (salad + sammich) then we found our gate was moved (pretty usual for continental lol).
We boarded.. and done! We landed at PVR where my sister was waiting for us along with my niece.
AND THATS ALL!!!
What an adventure with ups and downs!
Oh,,,,,my all time favorite. I love it!
