While I always have just grabbed a pair of my kids swim goggles they actually sell onion goggles now.

I'm in shock. Never have I heard of this before!! (I'm going to ask some of my cohorts at work tomorrow if any of them wear goggles when cutting up onions. I'll report back. :) )

One thing that's nice about going to a small private college is not having to worry about anything happening. We had a shooting scare, but it was just that: a scare. Some irresponsible students hunting in the woods. We have a lot of visible security that would be there in an instant if something did happen. The only incident I've heard about other than the shooting scare was a crazy person in the dorms with a knife, and that was over in 20 minutes. A section of campus requires an ID for entry. The second campus is in the middle of nowhere. Dorms all require an ID, and the gates close at 8 pm and you need your ID to get in. Not 100% fool proof, but it definitely helps.

We pretty much don't have to worry about stuff getting stolen either as long as you use common sense. I had a friend who left her phone behind on campus. She came back the next day and it was right where she had left it.
Anything is possible no matter where you are or how great security is.

Thanks, it's going to be a slow process, with alllergies and an infection, I'm super tired. But, I'm strong and will be better slowly and surely. Thanks for all who are thinking about me. xoxo to all

Get well soon, Bets. Try to do just a little exercise, even if you're tired. It will actually give you more energy. A few years ago, I had some odd virus or whatever, and I got very weak. Dr. told me to be sure to push myself a bit and not just lay on the sofa during the day. So I did, and gradually increased the time I'd go for a walk, for example. Pretty soon I was back to my old self, but I'm convinced that if I had not tried to kick start my system by moving around, it would have taken me twice as long to get over the illness.

Agree to a point -- with fewer people at your college, there's a lower percentage (proportionately) of lunatics. I may be overly cautious and self-protective, but years ago I did live on my own for a number of years. Let me tell you, I had my guard up constantly--not the point of obsession--but definitely aware of my surroundings and aware of anyone who was walking, or driving, near me. Even just a quick glance around once in a while can be reassuring, and then I'd just go on about my daily business.

The most important thing is to also listen to that "voice" inside your head--if something or someone doesn't seem right, bolt out of there.

@Cesar R M , what did your sister find out about her car? Did they mess up her brakes when they did the brake job?
no idea, didnt ask her.
Was more busy with our own problems. But considering how awful the mechanics are over here. They probably were lazy and did not do a full replacement of the brakes. Or they did but installed used brakes and not brand new ones. (some crooked mechanics can steal the new pieces given by the clients, and install rebuilt used ones)

I love the 50's culture but personally I could never go back in time and live there. Being a mixed family, I would never want to live in a time of segregation.
I was thinking about this as well..
Reminds me of all these people who "hate living today, and would love to go back to the XXX date".
Then get very angry when you show them that the time they wanted.. wasn't as happy and fun as they made it sound (specially for minorities).

I blame some of it on my allergies but mostly I chop a lot of onion. Tonight I was just cutting up a half dozen small scallions and was weeping like a baby. Who woulda thunk?

Happens here all the time too, so often with autobody repair.

Ha! I've always named my cars, some of which over time, I've been more attached to than others. Appliances-I've never heard of that one.

The only car I've ever named was my first.
I started callin' her "Bessie" shortly after I bought her.
I have no clue why. Maybe it was because I wasn't related to, or had never met any female with that name up to that point (still haven't) in my life...? Don't know, but it also seemed to fit the car.
And, yep. This is the first I can ever remember hearing about naming appliances... :cyclops:
Unless me calling a broken down one POS counts...!!! :hilarious:

This country is unhinged. I'm pretty sick of this. I want to go back to the 50's, it wasn't perfect, but you didn't have to worry about going out and being shot.
Depending on where you live, you still don't, but, I wouldn't be all that sure that stuff didn't happen back then as well, it's just that most of our news was confined to 15 to 30 minute intervals a day. Local was local and national was usually just political and not events that happened around the country. In 1961 two kids from a Catholic "boarding" High School (Seniors) in a very small town in upper, upper New York State made an appointment with a car salesman on a Sunday. When they got there they beat him to death with a car jack just to take the car for a 1 hour ride. Crap happened you just didn't hear about it all that much.
