Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
I'm not sure. I only just read about it this morning.

I believe there are several thoughts behind it. For one thing, Maryland has a rather large tourism industry, especially in Baltimore, Annapolis, and Ocean City, and a lot of the tourism, especially in Ocean City, is locals. There's thoughts that extending the summer will help the economies.

And then there's the whole air conditioning situation. The governor is NOT happy with Baltimore County about not having AC in their schools. He wants portable AC units in the schools until full air conditioning can be installed in all schools. But August is also hotter for us than June, so it would be better for schools to start after Labor day when it starts to cool down.

For Baltimore County, I believe if they cut professional development days and moved them to the summer, the end of the school year would only need to be extended a few days. If they cut down on Spring Break, then they'd probably get out around the same time. They could likely also cut President's Day, MLK's birthday, etc., and that would help.

I know a lot of parents, including mine, would rather see them go after Labor Day and have fewer days off during the year. I think at the very least they should start about when all the colleges start.

Yeah I was wondering. I know lots of our teachers take college courses at Universities and those usually start in late May here. I hope before they change over they figure it all out rather than leaving the details until later. I hope he has all the wiring inspected in those schools before he starts plugging that many portable A/C units in those buildings.

Whelp, the governor signed the executive order. Schools must start after labor day and be done by June 15. My mom watched the press conference. Evidently, this was an initiative that the previous governor started and sent a team to look at more than two years ago. So likely the homework has been done.

The governor was not very complimentary of Baltimore County's schools. Well, gee, I wonder why...even though I got a very good education there, I think if I had kids, I'd consider moving to a neighboring county. All the counties in Maryland, minus Baltimore City, are well-run. Could get an excellent education without all this nonsense.

EDIT: Previous governor, not precious. I'm rather tired today.

I don't mind ironing but we really don't buy anything that needs it. I think the last time I ironed something was a couple years ago. My mom loved to iron, she said it was meditative. She hated washing windows though and that is one of my favorite chores. It is weird how some people like certain tasks and hate others.
I like to sweep the floor. It must be the magic of making the dust and dirt disappear...until I have to empty the canister. ;)

Not quite used to being back to work quite yet since this is just my 3rd day back since my Wedding/Honeymoon WDW vacation came to an end on August 28th. I could have stayed another 2 weeks. We arrived on August 12th and I stayed 1 night at BayLake Towers and then got married at Disney on August 13th. The best day of my life. Then I moved my things into the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa where my husband stayed the night before. We then enjoyed a wonderful Honeymoon at the most Magical Place On Earth. I am now sitting outside eating lunch in mid 80 degree weather at work just thinking about how lovely it all was. Once I get it all originized I will set up a Trip Report. I am Rachel, but go by Rach.

That's lovely. Sounds like you had a wonderful honeymoon at WDW, and you picked some very nice resorts to stay in, as well. Congratulations to you and your husband.

I'm happy to report yes!:joyfull:

That is very good to know. It's like when a few people on the forums (including @ajrwdwgirl ) mentioned to me that 50s Prime Time Cafe also had a lounge that served full meals at the bar. That was great for me. (I don't mind sitting at a bar in a nice cocktail lounge, that serves meals. I'm not a fan of sitting at a table by myself.) Maybe next year when I go to WDW, I might check out Sanaa. :)
