Downton Abbey Hotel is opening on Valentines Day

Only $540 a night, to start.

I tried watching Downton Abbey once. I didn't like it.

Thanks to my dad, skating (both ice and roller) is the only sport where my skills surpass Hubby.
As a kid, I used to skate 4-5 hours a day. My dad had to set up floodlights so I could skate in the dark.
Sometimes he would join me, but usually it was just me, out there by myself, for hours on end.

I like that. Did you have figure or hockey skates? I loved figure skating; spins were my favorite! I could do a few jumps, too, but just small, unexciting ones. I wasn't exactly the most coordinated athlete . My balance preferences were a little funny, too. I used to always spin on my left foot, but land jumps on my right foot. Whatever. I had fun!! :p

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
What wonderful memories you have of your dad. I think it's so cool that he gave the family their own private rink in the backyard.
Quoting again, for a different reason.
Walter Gretzky specifically chose the family home on Varadi St. for its large, FLAT backyard - perfect for a rink.
I'd say it kind of worked out for them.

BTW, Walter still lives in that home.
Depending on how much I am out and about, I may drive by it dozens of times/week.

I never had any skills to speak of.
I just went around and around, forwards or backwards .... No jumps, no spins, no fancy stuff.
And yes, I had white figure skates - size 8 since grade 7. Not sure I could skate without picks.

ETA: This pic is from January 2013, out on my cousin's lake.
I was such a scaredy cat, that I had to wear a man's flotation suit. At the time, the suit weighed almost as much as I did.

Bear with me for a moment: is Walter Gretzky the father of the famous hockey star, Wayne? (I don't follow hockey, but even I've heard of Wayne, who is a hockey legend, correct?)

I think it means you're normal. :) You've passed the toast psychology test!

My sister made cookies for Christmas and brought them over. I had some on the first day but nothing after. Why?

The longer the cookies stayed together made the smells come together. Tthe mint cookies made the other cookies smell like mint so therefore I didn't go near them.

HA! Love that picture!! (I think you and I had different "outfits" for skating, too. I admire the fact that you could actually move in that cocoon!! I used to wear skating dresses and tights.)

I can understand how that happens--especially with mint, because it's so strong. Next year, just (sealed, plastic) bag them into separate groups, so that you can enjoy all of them well beyond Christmas.

Christmas stuff down outside and packed away (ice and snow threatening after midnight.) Christmas all down in the house and put away. Now everything just looks like winter. No flowers, no fresh veggies, no green anything.
