Sympathy like. A run Disney event is on our bucket list. Me for the exercise and views, my dh plans of bench hunting:hilarious:

Hahaaa...!!! :hilarious:

It was definitely a blast, and something y'all should do at least once! :)
If you do, try to get in one of the first corrals (they group by what time you say you can do a mile in). Both DDs and SonIL were in corral A, and DWifey, DS, and myself were in corral F. SonIL finished the run before our corral even started.
'Cause yes, the earlier your corral, the better the sunrise views over WS...!
Remember me posting this (taken by oldest DD)...?! :)

This trip I bought The Haunted Mansion A Disney Classic by Jason Surrell. I didn't realize that the mansion in Disneyland was built, but didn't have anything in it or open for six years. It says that people were always asking when they would get to go in the mansion. It says that Walt even went to the UK to visit mansions that had ghost stories associated with them. It didn't open until after his death.
There are so many facts. I've only read a few pages and learned so much. I can't read much at a time because of an eye problem, but I can't wait to learn more. It is a very comprehensive updated version including facts on all the mansions around the world.

Enjoy! I need to get that one! :)
Although I don't have that particular book, I do have many other Disney books, including biographies about Walt, books on Imagineering, etc. I actually can't remember the last time I read a book that wasn't about something Disney...! :)

Yep, as the story goes Walt's ideas for the Haunted Mansion were a tad over the top. Trying to keep up with Walt's grand imagination all the while dealing with Walt's commitment to New York at the same time, a losing battle. He passed away and they reworked his visions and then it was possible to build and finish. The man did have an overactive but very creative imagination.

I think you're probably right. There was such a difference in the attitude of some of them. I heard many of them being down right rude to guests and others very nice and friendly.

I can remember one woman searching bags in my lane at the studios, the moment you realize you chose wrong. She went through bags like an old lady switching from her summer purse to winter purse. The other lanes were being just as meticulous but rifle through a bag with efficiency. Me I only carry a tiny cross body or a small string backpack if anything at all. I always open up the zippers and pull open the draw strings and there is so little in each they can see comb, umbrella, glasses and are handing it back as quickly as I hand it off to them. That lady I swear was looking for a hidden false bottom to a simple string backpack. Beyond crazy. And had an attitude like she was on the President's secret service detail.

THNX for the tip I know I can do an 11 minute mile with no problem, could mostly likely get that time down if needed

And they also know exactly what he would and wouldn't like about the parks today.

Yeah, I like the ones where they believe he flips in his grave over liquor at BOG or when CMs were allowed to have facial hair, Lordie.

Still there are things about The Man that are not such a reach to nail the things that were important to him. He was rather OCD. IMO he would not be amused with parks being out of order, in need of paint, emptying garbage cans quicker as he was a knitpicker. I'd go with the odds he would not endorse the breaking of themes in the lands of the parks. It seemed too important to him with the Magic Kingdom to not ever let CMs cross into different lands let alone letting one land physically bleed into another. He appeared to have standards for certain areas of his business that he didn't waffle and didn't seem to indecisive about.

While the Invasion of Animation into the world showcase is a toss up. That one I could argue either way. He introduced animation to the world in so many different forms and was certainly an opportunist. Then I recall how he really wanted an EPCOT type park and Frozen didn't exactly meet those standards. And finally the rational side of me plops me in the middle, our EPCOT isn't Walt's vision of EPCOT so who the heck could say if he would approve or not.

Me, I would like to think Walt smiles when he looks down at AK Safari. What he really wanted for the Jungle cruise.

@StarWarsGirl one of my friends has taken to calling my baby Sheldon with social skills. Should we be offended?
I say I live with Sheldon between my brother and my father. My brother with his "quirks" and my dad because like Sheldon, he thinks he is always right.

Actually, when we explain my brother, we just say he's Sheldon. Watching that show also helped me to cope because instead of saying to myself, "Why is he this way?" I started saying, "Whelp, he's Sheldon."

That's was my first thought. Everyone complaining about length of time to build a ride/area and Walt left this one empty for so long.
This book is official Disney, so they really can't say it isn't true.

Yeah however the HM was more the exception than the norm for the pace of builds in the prior century and what dear 'ole Walt wanted wasn't all that achievable. It got built pretty darn quick once they were able to go with the flavor of what he wanted, design it and build.
Walt in those last few years just stretched himself too thin. Between the World's fair, buying out property in Florida for his second crack at fixing the things he could have done better with DL all the while still micromanaging attractions like the HM. He certainly had a different approach to his business than leadership does now, it has become so much about the ever changing corporate business model something Walt seemed to careless about. Roy on the other hand being more savvy about such things had to bang his head countless times a day.

I agree with you on this one, but I don't believe it is anywhere near as bad as the naysayers claim it to be. We were there just a few months ago, and saw no overflowing trash cans, no filthy bathrooms, and no trash in the streets. Main Street hasn't looked this good in 20 years, no matter what the idiots out there claim. I've been going to WDW since 1978 when I was 22 already. Most of them went there in the 80's and 90's as kids, and their memories are only of the good, and not the ugly.

Since EPCOT was never built as he intended, then no one has any idea how he would feel about Frozen in Norway. They can speculate all they want, but they don't know. Of course, they think they're right, and it doesn't matter what you say, you are wrong. And I don't care what they think about whether it fits or not. If it is well done, then it won't matter to 99.9999999% of the visitors that go there. Only a dozen that visit here.

And I think he would love AK!

Pretty sure it will always depends on a)the time and day you go b) the specific bathroom.
When I was there this year.. the restroom which is in the back of pinochio's pizzeria was beyond trashed.
I complained and then a mere minutes later, there was an army of custodials nearby.
Same with Worldshowcase, some were very clean, others were bad.
Best = Coral Reef's and USA pavilions.
Worst = Nine Dragons and The Land's

My suggestion would be add a "panic button" that calls custodials right by the exit of each bathroom (but visible enough so they are not abused)
