Is the McDonald's that opened in 1998 still around? Because if I remember correctly, don't you that building after you pass the WDW entrance on the road to the Magic Kingdom? Because I remember seeing that building during my visit in 2004 and 2006 but wasn't able to see it due to our High School taking the Disney Bus Transportation which might have taken a different route.
just google in the maps "mcdonalds disney world". It should bring you to the one next to AK/AKL (by the overpass)

OK, so youngest DD and DWifey went over to mom and pops a little while ago to borrow an extra carry on bag for the trip. Then mom remembered she found an old faded drawing in a box in the attic just the other day that I had done years ago. I remember drawing this in 7th grade art class. They totally surprised me with something I had long forgotten about...! :)

My dh is a bit worried about the cuts at Disney! We usually book at least a year out but he's now saying let's see what the Disney part of our trip is like before booking 2017. He's talking about maybe staying over at UNI:eek:
I understand his feelings, things seem so uncertain right now. I'm ready to stop the October vacation, and go elsewhere. But, hubby wants to do a wait and see.....I do know if prices continue to rise for everything, we may opt out to one vacation a year, using the time share, and not enter the parks every day. Perhaps take a car to UNI or Sea World. I love animals, so that would be a good fit for me. Disney is making me really disappointed right now.

I agree with you 100%. What I've noticed over the years is a cultural shift to "instant" everything. With the speed of the internet, online shopping, fast food restaurants, etc. (to name just a few examples here), people of all ages are being conditioned to think that anything past a few minutes of waiting is unacceptable. I try to avoid that mindset for myself, but even I fall into that trap from time to time.

Back when I was a kid in parochial school, I recall the nuns telling us that patience is a virtue. IMO, patience is getting kicked to the curb these days. For a huge company such as Disney to not acknowledge this fact, is beyond my comprehension. Whatever pittance they save by cutting some staff hours, etc., will translate to some lost sales. Now, they can always adjust this down the road if the sales drop enough, but the fact that they're pushing the envelope to see how far they can go, is aggravating to me for a company of that size and wealth.

I spit my Coke with I recall the nuns telling us that patience is a virtue, literally.

My Nuns had the patience of gnat with their students. If true, my Nuns lacked that virtue themselves. Disney World is a service oriented business that had prided and built their reputation on excellence and for this guests paid a high price for excellence. I don't believe this is about the guests wanting everything in an instant more about The Disney Corp willingness to tank their reputation to balance out their quarterly returns for stockholders. My belief is this is what 'all this' is over guests needing instant gratification. At minimum if I am going to pay $10 for a hotdog at Casey's Corner I anticipate pretty quick service given how simple the meal is to put in the guests hand from order to prep time. Me<----I find that a reasonable expectation of service for inflated prices.

The mentality of Iger and Co against WDW is staggering...

Yes!

The old business model of Disney Parks was you create a premium product with excellent service and you will reap the rewards for the quality offered.

The new business model is to invest minimum, stretch costs out over years of quarterly and annual reports, lower levels of quality from food to parks and increase prices while cutting staffing will reap higher quarterly and annual profits for shareholders.

We did have some fun reading the 'worship' thread for a short while. Yes it was ugly. Still its point, lost in all the blah blah blah wasn't really off target.

Well with the planned cutbacks, I see no reason to go back this year. I'm not going to pay premium prices to stand in longer lines and have less hours in the parks. There wasn't a lot of "magic" being dispensed last December and for sure there will be less this year. Sorry it ain't happening...

Oh...it's a whole new series. The Sweet Life. There are 6 books after Confidential: 10 years later. I'll have to see if I can get some when I'm in the US this year. Thanks so much for letting me know about it!!

I guess I didn't know it had turned into an adult series, I guess I'll have to check it out. I have to go to the library website anyway.

I understand. :( And please take this in the spirit said....I've been on one Disney forum or another for about a decade and the members that liked the Uni Parks back then were a small minority and beat'n up pretty well for admitting they enjoyed their time Uni, it was sacrilege.
As I read more and more trip reports a good chunk are spending some of their week over at Uni, others actually staying at Cabana Bay, which is a pretty nice budget resort and bang for the buck. I've even seen our loyal Disney Members staying at Cabana Bay and just visiting Disney which is a real turn of tides. A few just visiting Uni this round waiting for the Studios and Avatar to launch someday.

Me <----a petty stockholder in Disney's eyes find this to be very short sided. With Future World & Norway as they are, the Studio's to be a big honk'n mess for a long time and Avatar, well is that even longer than the FLE was? Us the Loyal are disenchanted but I can't imagine the new or infrequent guests cluelessly arriving to cut hours, slow lines due to under staffing, long lines for restaurants all with rising prices.
Will these newer guests ever return? I don't know, with there now being valid competition what twits at Disney think now is the time to lower the bar for guests experiences. Oy.
