But this is why these laws were put into place. So many times a narcistic person getting rid of a spouse by persuading a doctor to put them away when there was nothing the matter with them. There are reasons why it is difficult to get legal power of attorney over someone else's health care to prevent abuse of power. Judges have very high criteria to take away an individual's rights. There were so many cases of adult children declaring Mom was incompetent to gain control over family estates. Too many unscrupulous people in the world.

Ever see the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest?
I didn't say that i approved doing this, just that someone wants to bring this back. He was one of the "million" GOP candidates.;)

So I have had quite a day of some ups and downs...and I have to share because I'm still a little freaked out about the downs. So sorry if it is a little long. The day started with a phone call from school we had a two hour delay because of icy roads. This was a good thing for me, it meant getting a little extra sleep and getting some stuff done around the house. As I live only 2 blocks from the school I teach at I didn't have to worry about icy roads.

Once I get to school the kids are all crazy because it is Friday and we had the 2 hour delay. I was a little late getting into my classroom to start as I was chatting with our librarian in the hallway and I noticed our principal with one of our students at the students locker which was right across from the doorway of my classroom. I thought it was strange if this student was already in trouble as it was at the start of the day. About 45 minutes later in between the next two classes another teacher told me she saw that student being taken out of school with the police. Anyway, soon after that we found out that the student had brought a loaded gun to school. And turns out it wasn't the first time, he showed the gun to his friends and his friends did the right thing and told our principal. It is just really scary to think that a middle schooler would bring a gun to school and it was loaded (and cocked). If you don't remember I teach in a very rural district and we all have the feeling that something like a shooting would never happen here. Luckily the student didn't use the gun and it didn't go off accidentally. But it is still sickening to think of what could have happened. Hopefully that is the only brush I or anyone I know have with that situation.

So when I came home from school we booked our summer Disney trip, as I needed some joy and magic to hold on to today. :(
Sympathy like. Good thing you didn't find out what happened until after it was all handled! How would one teach if that was going on right outside the classroom! I'm glad nothing happened!!

We still have a drive-in about five miles from me. $12 per carload and that's for TWO feature films, the same movies in theaters. Sometimes we load into my sister's van and when we basically are paying $2 a person. We pack a cooler and some camp chairs so when the kids fall asleep during the second movie we sit outside.
Ours was 2 movies as well, but I think it was cheaper than that...but it WAS 20 years ago, so it was bound to be cheaper. What sucked was when you only wanted to see the 2nd movie. You HAD to go for the first one and just sit it out. But we'd go to Walmart first and get all sorts of snacks to share so the only thing we needed to buy from the concession stand was nachos or pretzels with cheese.

We never had a lot of safety protocol put into our schools until three years ago. As a day was ending at my daughter's school, a mom picking her kid up went to a classroom and smacked the teacher around. The father had left the mother to date the teacher and mother wasn't happy! After that incident entrance cameras and a buzz in system was installed.
Wow...That's terrible!! We virtually have no security at our school at all, but then, firearms are completely illegal here, so the danger of a mass shooting is pretty small, so I guess they figure they don't need it. But you don't think about things like THIS...just a parent assaulting the teacher. We don't even have to sign in to come in. I have to be at the school a lot to decorate for the season or holidays or to prepare events...like wrapping presents for the Sinterklaas celebration, or bring in supplies for the Easter breakfast. They know me and I can just walk in and do what I need to do. I can't even imagine having to sign in, much less BUZZ in!! But I see the necessity of it in your school. Scary!

I bought a soft travel pillow, at Walmart, I don't think they sell them any more. I wish they would bring those back. I can't use those big hard pillows either!

I put a travel pillow and a larger flannel receiving blanket in my backpack which I take onboard vs a purse. I get chilly on the plane but need the air. The travel pillow about 12x9-ish, I found at Joann Fabric's in their pillow/foam rubber section. At times I've seen them in the infant area of places like Walmart and Target. If I take an early morning flight I like a window seat, put my headphones in, wedge my head between seat, pillow-window and try not to open my eyes again until we land. Rarely do I fall asleep but the rest helps when you're up at 2am.

yikes.85 USD!???

Yes Sir. Actually Amazon is a little cheaper than what I had paid the first time. More like $100 each for the first set. Then I bought a set for my DD, then I bought another set for her dorm room and she bought yet another set for her new apartment. All and all about $1000.00 in pillows. But my first set lasted 5 years so $200 set for 5 years I am fine with as they are so comfortable and I got to test them out first in a hotel. Before that I spent lots of money in smaller amount on pillows that were not comfy, to warm, too overstuffed......so at least that cycle stopped.

OMG WTW???????

Crazy. I had heard about it on the news, just didn't know it was @ajrwdwgirl school. Oy. My Nieces College Prep school, KP-12 tightens up their 4 years of middle school. Those years they put them in Uniforms, the staff doesn't let them pick partners, change up lunch seating, they do everything those 4 years to make them interact with everyone and everyone 'look' the same. Pretty ugly uniforms too. lol. I think they are onto something.
