I loved my years with the scouts...it ended on a sour note, but the time up to that was fantastic. I went to GS camp and learned lots of things like how to make tapered candles, and how to build a campfire, etc. And my mom was the leader of our troop for several years...brownies and GS. We went to Mount Rushmore one year (it's only about a 3 hour drive from where we lived in Wyo.) and there was another GS troop there at the same time, so we exchanged addresses and became penpals. Then a few years later, our penpals planned a trip to Yellowstone and we were all planning on going together, but it blew up because my mom didn't have anywhere to leave my brother and the other girls' parents didn't want my brother going on their daughters' trip, even though we'd pay his way and he wouldn't be staying in the same cabin with the girls. So it ended up that I was the only one who got to go, and then we just payed for our own trip instead of using GS money. But our penpals visited us on the way and we did tours of the buffalo ranch and the coal mines before my mom and I went with them to Yellowstone and my mom played tour guide, since she had been to Yellowstone many times before. Such a great trip!!
