That is my fear. Selectively sharing and playing it for someone other than yourself. Take a look at your student ethics policy. If you record for other purpose other than personal use ie to nail the professor it could be an ethics violation would could get you expelled. Did your deans request a recording or did they ask you to verbally talk to other students? Big Difference. Your Dad could likely look at the legal side of the policies of using recording for this purpose.

I'm with you on this. Don't want to see @StarWarsGirl95 get into trouble. I don't think using a recording to get someone in trouble is personal use. Distributing means sharing with someone other than yourself, no? You wouldn't want to create a whole other problem that takes away the focus of getting this professor reprimanded or to change his approach to students. I mean, you could record him for now and then ask about the ethics of sharing before you do.

I think you are missing my point. Personal use is just that you and you only. Share it with a dean you could very likely be violating policy of personal use by broadcasting the tape to another person if that is a dean, classmate, etc. If they choose the word personal in the policy you best get a clarification from someone first on the meaning of the word personal use.

I have spent more years in university classrooms than I would like to think about and I understand why you are urging @StarWarsGirl95 to be cautious. We were allowed to record for personal use. However, we were told that this meant we weren't even allowed to share the recording with a classmate who missed a class and was trying to catch up. Universities are very careful when it comes to covering their butts legally. I bet your school has a legal liaison who could answer such questions.

ETA: Unless of course you had the professor's (and classmates' who may appear on the recording) permission.

I have the Marie mug, except it says WDW on the back. We have designated coffee mugs and designated no coffee mugs. The mugs that are mine or my mom's never ever have coffee in them. We both hate coffee.

We don't drink coffee either. Tea and hot chocolate mugs for us.

You are all making me so very hungry. Skipped breakfast this morning. (I know, bad girl!) And now I am contemplating eating my desk. Add a little salsa verde and I'm sure it would be edible.

We won't be going, it's over 1,000 miles away and her new husband didn't invite us.

I wish we had those. We get fined if we don't comply with the snow removal regulations.

Bonus that I don't have sidewalks. We shovel a path from my house to our driveway and a neighbor brings his four-wheeler with a snowplow over to do my drive and to my mailbox.

If I can pull everyone away from Harrison Ford for a minute... I'd like to tell you a true story. Today, I was talking with some people that live in my apartment complex. The conversation went like this.

Them: Hey, how are you. We haven't seen you around for a few weeks, is everything OK.
Me: Oh my yes, everything is fine I have just been away on vacation and I got back last Sunday.
Them: Wow, that is great... where did you go?
Me: I went to Europe for a few weeks and then took a cruise back.
Them: Man, that is great... Did you drive there?
Me:

Doesn't speak well of our current education system does it?

Yep...sounds about right. When my husband and I were living in the US, we worked at Walmart (the only thing we could find on short notice) and my husband said he was from the Netherlands. So one of our co-workers asked "Oh..my mother-in-law is sending us to Amsterdam...is that anywhere near the Netherlands?" And upon hearing that Amsterdam is actually IN the Netherlands, he proceeded to ask if it would be a problem for him to take pictures there or whether he would be caned. All hail American edumacation.

I'd say be careful or at least run it past your Dad first. Personal use I believe is just you. Once you share it with someone it might be consider distribution not personal use.

Good point. Just like if you take pictures of yourself and send it to a friend, if that picture is...inappropriate and the subject is underage, that's considered distribution.
