This year our school adopted a new policy for if there is a shooter in the building. The old plan was to lock our doors, and hide quietly in the corner. New plan: lock the door, barricade it, and escape out the window if possible or escape out into the hallway and outside if we don't hear immediate shots. So basically new plan just do anything besides hide in the corner.

I always hated the old plan of just hiding in the corner like sitting ducks. Plus there isn't that much room to "hide" in my room, especially when I had 36 kids in my room. My plan all along was to escape whatever way we could and take all the kids to the public library which is a block away. I figured the library is always open during the day, all the kids know where it is, and it is connected to the police station, a good rendezvous spot for kids and parents. I've told my husband for years that the schools plan was dumb the school just finally caught up to my way of thinking.

Yep, it took a while for everyone to catch up to your plan of not playing the victim anymore. :banghead:

Are you going away? I'm trying to follow the posts between you and Jennifer. Is this perhaps the time for the European trip you mentioned a few months ago?
Yes, I leave Monday afternoon. As soon as I get past the part where I have to make a plane connection in of all places... Toronto... the rest should be OK. :joyfull:

I always secretly hoped that Toronto was a place where I could truthfully say... "you can't get there from here", but, they messed me up.

The shaving balloons thing would make me nervous, I hate the sound of balloons popping. How did you blow up gummy bears? I do an experiment with my 7th graders in which they test what will happen to gummy bears in different liquids. They always want to eat them, so I have extras for eating so they don't eat the tested ones.
You are the best. teacher. ever. First marshmallow shooters and now gummy bear...experiments...always with extra for eating. I want to be in your class, please!

Thats correct, and the word could be " Pellizcadas".
And what you mention, sounds like a "Sope". :hungry:

Yes! That's it! Soooooo yummy! We did the frijoles and we put chicken and lettuce and cheese on them. Delicious. I cheat now with the beans and use jars of beans instead of the ones you have to soak all night. But the real authentic tacos and such are so much better than "tex mex".

If anyone likes spy/history movies, hubby and I went to see "Bridge of Spies" last night. It was really well done and enjoyable. The only low point was the elderly man and wife behind us that decided to talk and comment on many of the parts of the movie, we even asked them to stop and they didn't.

I actually said to my husband (once the movie ended and so the couple could hear) that I would have rather sat with my middle schoolers as they are better behaved and quieter during movies. The guy just looked at me and said sorry, not in a way that he thought he had done anything wrong. We should have moved but we were too lazy and it was a pretty full theater so we would have been moving to the 1st or 2nd row.
Sympathy like. I always get seated near people like that. When one of the Harry Potter movies came out, I think OotP, I was seated next to a girl who was obviously just there because her friends were. She had never read the books or seen any of the other movies and she kept asking her friends why this person did that, or said this, or what happened with this...then she got out her phone and started playing with it. I wanted to smack her.

@donaldtoo , not far from where I grew up in MA, was a Nike Ajax B-55 site on top of a hill (fenced off, guarded, restricted area). Nike Ajax 30 / 10 per launcher section; 12 mounted on launchers (4 per section). 3 Magazines; 1 type B, 2 Ajax. Dates of operation were from 1955 through 1963. I think the Army is in charge of that site.

Incidentally, even when they shut it down, the locals in the area were convinced that they never removed the weapons; that they are still underground there, and could be used if needed. :cautious:

Yep, possible. Based on things we found out about my deceased FILs former service. :cautious:
There a lot of things our government does to protect our national security that are on a need to know basis.
And, quite frankly, I don't need, or want to know.
Just as long as they keep our beeeeehinds safe. ;) :)

I'm with you on that last comment.

Somewhat related, I was watching CSpan this afternoon about Homeland Security. They had the Secretary of HS who spoke to military and others about various situations. It was very interesting and freaky all at the same time.

Has anyone here had to deal with incontinence in an older dog? Our female dog has been on Proin for a while now, which worked until recently, and even though we've upped her dosage, she's still leaking quite a bit at night. I read that estrogen may help, so I just ordered a supplement, plus a hip/joint supplement as well. If these don't help, though, I'm guessing our next course of action are doggie diapers, which sounds humorous and sad at the same time.

What does your vet recommend?

If your dog has her own bed, pillow, or blanket, that she normally sleeps on, can you put a "puppy pad" on that at night?
