How does one get on the bed? A step ladder? I joke but my bed is like 18 inches from the ground to the top.
I did order a new bed and mattress. Should be like 28 inches off the ground. Mattress is pretty thick; 13.5 inches.

Which is better than what I currently have. Too tall. 🤣 Neither me nor my cat like it. She's been using the bench to get up on the bed.

My parents have a tall bed. I can barely get on it. I think it's about four feet off the ground. That's a climb for me. 🤣

We have a platform bed with storage as well. It's very handy, except that the storage part is hard to open. It's pretty heavy lifting, but it does stay open once you open it. Not sure how high the bed is though...never measured.

This is kind of what we have, but ours is two single bed platforms put together with mattresses and then there's a queen size topper that goes across to make it one bed. And the storage underneath opens on the side, not the foot end. I like that better because it's easier to access stuff in the storage part. It can't get pushed back too far or be where the bed doesn't open as far.

Yeah, I'm planning on it being more a space I use and open every now and then. So storing clothes that I wear seasonally and such.

Big thing too was the upholstered finish. I've been known at hotels to bang my head against wood headboards while sleeping. 🤦‍♀️ I've learned to put a pillow there. I currently don't have a headboard and there's a slight gap before the wall, so I don't do that at home. Or I put a pillow there.

I bought my bedroom set when I moved to NC in 2011. Never gave the height a thought. Turns out I should have because after I started to have more serious back issues it has become far more difficult to get into than it originally was. It has a normal height frame but the box spring and the mattress is huge. I thought about just getting a new "thinner mattress but the way the headboard is designed it would leave about a 6 inch gap in elevation between the smaller mattress and the bottom of the head board.

While I was typing this I remembered that my son in law is very, very good at furniture making and perhaps I could get him to modify the headboard so that would fit. After all these years I'm not sure about how happy he is that I handed over my oldest daughter at their wedding. Maybe he doesn't hold that against me. Just kidding, they seem to be getting along fine after almost 27 years. 😉 :)

On my last WDW trip, I was traveling solo and got an unbelievable AP rate at Contemporary. I was in the garden wing. They upgraded me to the tower. It was amazing and will likely never happen again.

Anyway, they put me in the accessible room, which was fantastic because I was pretty sick and was using a scooter for that trip. The beds were low to the ground because it was accessible. I was like...where has this been my whole life? What am I doing sleeping on a higher bed?

I still may end up buying a stool, though. I may end up needing knee surgery, and if that's the case, I need to actually be able to get on and off the bed. I can do it on my current bed, but a stool would help.

Know a family who moved from Dallas to Hilton Head ( husband can work remotely and likes golf ) because over the years they could no longer take the heat and traffic. Liked my time living in Houston , got used to the heat great BBQ and Mexican food . We advised to get used to the hurricanes.
