Yea, they were in a Beechcraft Bonanza (one with the v-tail), with a pilot inexperienced in regard to flying in that kind of weather.
Waylon Jennings (eventually of country music fame) was originally supposed to be on that flight, apparently, but gave up his seat to The Big Bopper who wasn’t feeling well.
Either way, very sad.
