Well, iGuess I know that, but the point is that I have no need along with no desire to squint to watch movies, etc. on my phone when I have 50 inch "Smart" TV in my living room and my 20 inch desk top computer screen available. I only have an iPhone because a few years back Sprint had a promotion that got me the "8" for around $50 when I signed up with Sprint coupled with the fact that I had an android flip phone up until then.
I use my phone strictly for things that I find useful to me and the new ones offer things that I don't need or want, so why spend that kind of money before my phone buys the farm. (dies) Later Sprint became T-Mobile and when I was looking for a cheaper provider they offered to drop down my monthly charge to $35 per month IF I bought (If I remember correctly) the i-11 for just $800. I passed and switched to Consumer Cellular for $20 per month and have had exactly the same coverage that T-Mobile was going to give me. I think Consumer Cellular uses their network anyway. That was two years ago and the old i-8 is still purring along.
In fact the "protective" case that I bought when I first got the phone cost me about $70 at the time, fell apart about a year ago, the phone was fine though. I did have a battery weaken and had stopped into the Apple Store and they quoted me over $100 to replace the battery. Then I found a small private cell phone store and they replaced it in just a little over 10 minutes and charged me $28.
Lol, we young-ish people don't use our smartphones for watching TV.
If I'm on an airplane or stuck out someplace, maybe, and I use it for TikTok videos, but I have a 43 inch TV in my bedroom and a 55 inch TV in the basement, both of which are brand new; I have no need to watch TV on my phone.
I use it for internet browsing, shopping, Googling, gaming...
The iPhone 8 was a 4.8 screen. The flagship series of iPhones are larger, but the SE series is the same size as the 8. That's what my mom and brother have. It's too small for me; I'm farsighted and my Samsung is 6.2 inches. The SE series doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and if you're still with T-Mobile, you could probably get a deal on upgrading. The benefit would be that your screen would definitely be brighter, which would help you see better even if all you are doing is texting and internet browsing. If you did want a bigger model, you could probably get a deal on an older model that's larger. Same deal, screen would also be brighter.
The big reason to possibly consider it though was because last year was the last year that Apple did security updates on the iPhone 8. If you're doing anything more than getting calls and texts, like if you also check email and especially if you have banking information on your phone, then you especially may want to consider updating at some point this year.
As far as the cases go...a good OtterBox is really what you need. You'll ALWAYS pay more for them if you get them at a phone retail store. You're best off getting them online. I like the OtterBox commuter series, and they tend to run at most $50, but I've never paid that much for them. I think the one that is currently on my phone was $20. I put an OtterBox Defender series case on my brother's phone because he's harder on it; his cost $25. They charge more for recently released phones; if your phone is a few years old (or in the case of the SE where it fits older phones; 8 cases work on the SEs) then you definitely won't pay as much.
