Looks like fun, that is until the snow on your head and neck melts and runs down your back. I've spoken to a lot of people that have moved down here from up north and I honestly have never heard the words, "I miss snow" uttered even once.
Some of us are grumpier than others, nuff said!NC ?
Most people who would miss the snow probably aren't moving south in the first place.Looks like fun, that is until the snow on your head and neck melts and runs down your back. No, I would guess that there are some that move for the other 363 days of the year, but do miss a White Christmas. I just haven't met them yet, but it is probably not surprising that there are a number of southern natives that are always talking about how much they would love to be where it snows. Plus there is the fact that if my Daughters hadn't moved down here it is very likely that I would still be in the north. Thank god for children with the ability to leave home. I don't know if they figured on some part of home following them. Most people who would miss the snow probably aren't moving south in the first place.
Winter Club Ski and Snowboard in Winter Park FL is a popular place for Central FL locals to buy their ski and snowboard supplies and has interactive simulations for customers to learn and or improve skiing and snowboarding skills before traveling up North or out West to experience the real thing. Most people who would miss the snow probably aren't moving south in the first place.
We've met cast at MK and Epcot from NJ/NY. Good conversation piece when the CM nametags list their home towns. Happy Anniversary!! Hubs and I celebrate 32 on the 21st....Oh, and today is our 35th wedding anniversary, and our cruise was part of our present to each other…!!!!!!!
ETA…
Sometimes I hesitate on things like this, but, this one is just too important not to since I’ve been here this long.
Life has been good to all of us, and we never take it for granted…!!!!!
The ranking of those three reason would change with age. The first one would be younger people. The second and third would be for the middle and elderly. "Florida, the place where people go to die." At that point state income tax is not that important, so the second would probably split between younger, still moving upward to those of us that are sliding in the other direction. We've met cast at MK and Epcot from NJ/NY. Good conversation piece when the CM nametags list their home towns. Some of the main reasons these CMs moved to FL from up North were
Escape the rat race and stress of the Northeast
Lower COL to retire and work in , no state income tax
No more snow and cold winters
The cast that we met were middle age that described they were burned out from living working in NE , not young. They did sell their home for top dollar up North and one CM paid cash for a condo in Kissimmee. The ranking of those three reason would change with age. The first one would be younger people. My family moved for job opportunities, but that was from a state that is a nice place to visit but a place that one cannot afford to live. Example, Vermont is primarily a service related location. Most of the big companies, like IBM or Digital left the state because it was to expensive to stay there and even with them unless you had been with those places for a very long time the rate of pay was awful. I just read the other day that the average cost of a house is now $530K. I can assure you that there aren't all that many people in Vermont that can afford that even with minimum wage being fairly high. $15.00 per hour just doesn't make that grade. I have found that down here employees of mid-range positions are paid way more than what was possible in Vermont. However, lower echelons are paid way less here, thank goodness for lower COL.
The only "rat race" there is in most of northern New England is the stress from trying to make $10.00 buy $15.00 worth of groceries. The rat race people are those wealthier folks that live in the areas of the bigger cities just about all of which are in the lower southeast quadrant of NE.The cast that we met were middle age that described they were burned out from living working in NE , not young. Preaching to the choir. And so tax season of stupid dumb questions begin. For some reason people think I'm a tax person.
Isn't that similar as someone asking a doctor for free advice? My cousin who is a neo natal surgeon in the Midwest gets asked a lot by others related to their medical conditions on medical advice.Preaching to the choir.
People think that the only thing accountants do is taxes. I do not work with taxes. You should not ask me for tax advice.
Kind of, except since I'm not a CPA and/or don't have a tax preparer number, I cannot be compensated for giving advice.Isn't that similar as someone asking a doctor for free advice? This is something my dad doesn't miss after he retired. Dad was called out when power went out due to storms, wildlife, etc.We had over three inches of rain that was much needed. The winds picked up during the evening. The power went off down the street. Fortunately, ours went off and came right back on. It’s 30 right now.
