So I got a message through Facebook two days ago from one of my former classmates about the high school reunion and whether or not I'm coming. I'm trying to think of a nicer way of saying "Oh that sounds terrible; why would I want to do that?"

I'm thinking of saying "Regrettably, I have a conflict that day."

Conflict being "plans to sit on my couch watching Tik Tok videos" but they don't need to know that...
Great minds;)

"Unfortunately I have very special commitments during that week so I am unable to even plan to attend such event"
"said special commitments cannot be re-scheduled and are final."
"No, I will not disclose which commitments I am talking about".

I don't recommend any reunion in the early years because it becomes an I did better than you contest, but plan on the 50th. At that time there is no pretention, half the class is dead already the other half is been beat half to death by life and you get the chance to make new friends out of people that wouldn't even talk to you when you actually went to school together. I developed a whole group of Facebook friends out of that group. I even got to make contact with my high school girlfriend and we have managed to keep in touch ever since. She's been married now for 53 years and lives in Connecticut. I find it fun to chat with her, email and Facebook wise, and just how much we now have in common. (aches and pains, I'm talking about).

It's funny because I'm already friends with people I went to high school with that I wasn't friends with in high school.

One of my friends from college and I went to the same high school. We were a year apart. We never had anything to do with one another in high school. Connected in college when we had to do a group project together and now we send each other memes on a regular basis.

The other is longtime bestie's husband, which is super funny. They didn't know each other in high school (I knew him). They met in college. Now they're married. I'm also friends with him, in no small part because I actively encouraged the relationship. I had a positive opinion of him from high school even though we weren't friends. He also has a twin brother who I knew even better. They were nice guys back in high school and both still are.

I know my one friend from high school posted on FB that he's going to be away on the date of the reunion. Another one of my friends lives in CA. And honestly, I kind of don't feel like going for the reason you mentioned with the "I did better than you" contest. Also because my asthma was so bad when I was in high school that it's the first thing people ask me about if I happen to run into them. Like, did you not remember anything else about me? I've even run into two teachers since high school and that's the first thing they've asked me. :banghead:

I went to 2 reunions early on. Yeah, I didn’t miss much when I never went back. Still same cliques. It was kind of boring to be honest.

If I go to any future school reunions I would rather go alone instead of taking my spouse. The stories we would be telling about crazy times with fellow guys and girls in my class years wouldn't be appropriate for her to hear and we may end up arguing at a later date.
