So Colon...

Note that everywhere we went, the trend was usual, any restaurant was vastly overpriced.
The buffet was 30 USD average and it was.. so so..
On the good side, I found a way to order food using a local app that was the equivalent of UberEats.
Which was not that expensive and delivered food from cheap fastfood joints.

The hotel also had a convenient door that lead to a small mall with a supermarket and tons of little touristic stores.
I bought a straw hat with the Panama logo (very useful as I was starting to get sunburned on my face and bald part and we were just starting the trip).

Also bought bottled water and some snacks.

The day was very uneventful other than arrive and see some ships coming by.
But one thing was sure.
We were right in front of a terminal where there was a small MSC ship and a sister ship to the NORWEGIAN JEWEL on port.
and both were extremely delayed still picking people up.

We had a pleasant night but as soon we woke up we started to get ready.

And things started to get kind of wrong lol.

At the time the people should be leaving the Norwegian Jewel. It was barely manoeuvring to get to port.

That means a huge delay.
When we got down, we expected to be picked up by a free shuttle to the terminal.

But as we got to check out, we were greeted by a surprise. We could eat breakfast with no rush as the port authority reported a HUGE DELAY in boarding and that there would be free shuttles to everyone so we just had to wait. (There was quite a bit of people waiting already in the lobby). We also got told we could return to our rooms for a bit more time of rest. And we did, we had like 3 hours of rest plus the breakfast and finally at almost 1pm we were on our way to board.

The cruise terminal was an absolutely CHAOS.
There was unfinished construction everywhere and a monstrously huge line to leave the shuttles.

There were just too many people.
Once we got down we noticed a trend.
The port management was non existent from our point of view and the arrivals part was a disaster. Huge lines, very slow movement and everything was being done via paper.
The buildings were also very old looking and it was clear the port was designed to cargo, not people.

I think we were at least 1 hour in line barely moving before we started to come in. The line was at least 100 meters long. With no fans.

And the line was.. wait for it.. for bag drop.
As soon we left the bag.. the lines and speed improved (aka the terminal port authority ended and the area managed by Norwegian started.)

Of course they route you thru the dutty free where my mother wanted to buy some sunglasses.

The registration process was decent speed wise. We just needed like 10 minutes more and we were boarding the ship.

We were lucky as our stateroom was already ready and we we got in our bags were already infront of the cabin or very close so we just picked them up.

The room unfortunately was much smaller ( The Jewel is a small old ship).

Still, the worst offender was the toilet, which I will explain later.

Now the issues.

The room was NOT the one that was depicted in the photos the agent shared us to get us booked.
The room was also much smaller than was told. (the picture did show the usual cabin with the sideways beds, not the horizontal ones we got).
Instead of Sofa-bed, we got a bunkbed. So imagine a chubby dude in his almost 40 trying to get up the bunk bed every day. It was hilarious but also annoying.

Outside.. there was also other issues lol

The cruise crew informed us that we would be departing past 5:00 pm due to delays in the port. (lolx2) They were sorry but this was Panama Port's ( Colon's port issues) which we saw the day before with the other ships.
So the sail away "party" was going to be while we were docked.
No bigge. We had some food in the "pub" which was pleasantly good.
They delivered consistently tasty food all the time, and it was the 24/7 service.

We got upstairs to check the views, which were decent. But a storm was brewing close.

And yes, as soon the "party" started, it started to rain.
To be honest the general cruise entertainment was very weak compared to Disney or RCCL. They were energetic but seems like the entire ship and weather fought against them.
When it was raining so hard, everyone ran laughing and the music had to be stopped because the water was hitting so hard, it was drenching the music equipment XD

The sun was almost out when the ship finally left port and sailed to our first destination (with a Sea day).

The cargo ship in your pictures. Is that the same ship that ran aground in Egypt?

Nope. Its the same brand but different name/ship.

The EVERGREEN EVERGIVEN was the one that ran aground in Egypt

This one was an hilarious play of names.. EVERGREEN EVERFULL And yes it was packet full XD

Ironically, we saw this ship everywhere.

Saw it on Colon, loading.
When we returned to the panama Canal,it was crossing infront of us then we overtook it in the lake. (aka after the snake area, there are 2 new gates. The everfull went to the larger gates)
Then days later we saw it outside Panama's pacific side (Panama city).
