Next was more of the mushrooms and an empanada. It didn't say what was IN the empanada. And this was where we ran out of the little slips you order from, except for the vegetarian one. They give you 5 or 6 of these slips, and 1 green one that only lists the veggie options on it. The other slips have everything on it. So for the next round, we would have to either ask for more slips, or do a veggie round, and then ask for more slips.

The mushrooms were good again, and the empanada was ok, though it was pretty spicy and it had undetermined contents.
M got a saurkraut tart tartin with sweet onion compote, and something else that he forgot to take a picture of before he started eating it.

We thought they would automatically bring us more order slips. They did not. Veggie round it was.
I ordered more mushrooms and some onion rings. Onion rings in the Netherlands are a tricky thing. When I first moved here, there was no such thing. Then a few years ago, one of the grocery chains started carrying a snackbox during "American week" that had mozzarella sticks, onion rings, and cheese bites with jalapeno. They only had them during the American week. Every week has a different theme, usually a country, and they have products within that theme. They have since stopped carrying the snack boxes, but they started carrying bags of what they called "onion rings" so we bought a bag. They. Were. Nasty. They are not rings of onions battered and deep fried. They are batter mixed with some minced onion and formed into rings and fried. More places have started carrying onion rings. The problem is that you can't tell until you bite into them whether they are real onion rings, or the nasty onion paste things. But M had had the onion rings here before, and they were the good ones, so I knew they were safe. Onion rings are not particularly high end, but when you can't usually get them, it's a treat when you can.

I think I'm off because M forgot a couple of times to take pictures....I don't remember what he got this round, but the next pictures I have are not vegetarian, so I think maybe the potato wedges and the tart tartin were his choices for the veggie round.

Since M's beef tenderloin had been good, I decided to try it again to see if it was better. My other choice was a German steak, which is made with ground beef rather than a slab of meat.

The beef tenderloin was MUCH better this time. It was actually really good. The german steak was disgusting and I only ate one bite and that was enough for me. There's a particular spice blend that the Dutch use in a LOT of their ground meats that I really don't like. I don't know what's in it, but I can't stand it, and they put it in the german steak. It was this very dense ball of seasoned meat with pepper sauce. I didn't even really taste the sauce and I left the onion ring that was on the bottom. I couldn't eat it.

Somewhere in here, M ordered a Chicken dish that he said I would love....that must be one that he forgot to take a picture of, so I'll put it here, though it was earlier that he ate it. And I have a picture of Pork tenderloin with pepper sauce. The chicken is Eastern style chicken with crunchy paksoi salad.

I hope the rest of your night was as amazing as the food

I think this was our last round of regular food before moving on to desserts.

Both M and I had bacon-wrapped goat chees with honey Thyme sauce, and I got the Eastern-style chicken that M had said I would love.

The goat cheese was good, but could have used more of the honey thyme sauce. I liked that it was served on toast. It gave it a nice crunch. The chicken was again pretty dry, but the worst thing was that it was grilled and very charred and I HATE char. I know a lot of people LOVE that char from grilling, and people will fight over the burnt ends of a brisket or whatever, but I don't want any char at all if I can help it. What the attraction is to burnt food, I don't know. M was wrong....I didn't like this one, so he ate the rest of it.

His second dish was BBQ speklap, which I have no idea how to translate because we don't really have speklappen. It's basically a very thick cut of bacon. It came with sweet potato salad and picalilly sauce.

And that's all the main course pictures. M liked all his choices. If I'm honest, I was disappointed in most of mine. The second round of beef tenderloin was good, and the mushrooms were good, but most of the dishes were just not executed well. Maybe it was because of the new menu, I don't know, but there was nothing that I was like "OH YUM!!" that would make me want to come back for more. And there was nothing that either of the kids would have liked. E could probably find things she'd eat, but like me, she wouldn't really ENJOY them enough to make it worth the money. So until they change the menu again, I'm afraid it's a one and done for me. I have to go make dinner now, so I'll have to do desserts tomorrow.

The like was for the night out. Sorry you were disappointed but I'm wondering if it's because you're a good cook and know what goes into making interesting dishes
