Went down Disney Store memory lane today with a new, younger coworker that worked retail not all that long ago.
We started talkin’ about the notorious, hourly KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) from retail. Could be especially annoying during your management shift (or, quite wonderful, depending on the day
). Carolyn dealt with them too, when she was a Payless Shoes manager.
Every hour we printed out a report from the closest register to record on a paper chart on a clipboard.
There were 5, IIRC…
I can remember 4…
Average dollars per sale, items per sale, dollar amount per hour (as managers we had hourly sales goals, assigned to us from corporate, based on LY), and conversion.
Dollar amount per hour could be totally blown by large returns, and even returns that were purchased at another Disney Store, or online, could be returned to our Disney Store, and counted against our store.
Conversion (how many Guests that breached the entrance that actually bought something) was one that could really get annoying. 7 people could walk 5 ft. into the Store for 20 secs. just to get outta’ the mall traffic, then leave. Statistically, that then turned into 7 Guests that you didn’t, as the manager, “convert” to purchase anything.
Fun times…!!!!!
