Can't forget years ago visiting a friend in North Easton , MA and stayed in their home. No AC in home , temp outside 97 for few days and dealt with it with a few portable fans. Taking several cold showers helped a bit.

Yea, we all have central heat and air here. It’s still in the low 80’s, so we only have the ceiling fan in the living room on.
Not supposed to be back in the 90’s until next Saturday, then the A/C will be back in use.

Long story short, decided recently to donate my old car to charity (Vietnam Veterans of MA). A number of charities up here work with the car auction houses (some of those are huge), and the buyers bid on them. Some buyers (usually dealers, but others, too) buy the cars for repairs they know are needed--so they can flip for a higher price to sell; some are bought just for parts; and some go to salvage places and sold for the metal. The auction houses get a percent of the sales, and the charities get a percent (varies how much, depending upon various deals each has set up).

Good thing is that the auction places tow the car away for free, so that's helpful, particularly in the case of a car you know you can't sell for much anyway.

Then, of course, there's the social sideshow going on in the driveway, between tow driver and hubs. Guys just love to talk about cars -- old cars, new cars, cars that work, and cars that don't. :p Hubs enjoyed helping the guy push the car (big fun 🤦‍♀️) on to the rear hitch (truck was a very long flatbed with one car already on top of it). Ours was dinky -- so the tow guy set it up for towing, hitched up to the back of this large truck, with our car's back wheels on the road. (Man had to haul both cars to the MA/NY border.) It was the highlight of hubs' morning. :joyfull:
I had a real bad experience with Kars for kids last year. Never again.

Who would ever think hundreds would die from a heat wave in ID, WA, OR last year. Lack of AC was the culprit. I've been to the Pacific Northwest. A number of residences don't have AC.

I was grown and married before I lived in a house with AC. We had a lot of fans blowing hot air around, but we all survived. My bedroom was on the second floor. If the temperature downstairs was 95 degrees it was 115 in my room. Survived (just barely) with a 12 inch fan. Actually, I never even thought about it. No one had air conditioning except the wealthy, and even that wasn't much good.

Neither of the 2 homes we lived in in No Cal from ‘68-‘76 had central air, but, we did have central heat. No basement, but their was a crawl space below the floor, and the heat registers were in the floor. On cool/cold mornings, we would lay on the floor in the living room with a blanket over our feet that were on the register, and the blanket would puff up and keep us toasty warm when the heater came on…!!!!! 🤗:hilarious:
My grandparents farmhouses never had any kind of A/C, but used gas burning (Pop’s parents) and wood burning (Mom’s parents) stoves for heat.
The only 2 places we ever had A/C when we visited Texas from No Cal way back in the day in summer was at my Aunt Alice and Uncle Elwood’s home, and my parents best friends home, Pat and Jesse. Aunt Alice and uncle Elwood had central air, and Pat and Jesse had window units, but both kept the temps very comfortably cool.
It’s funny, I don’t have a problem with heat during the day, but, I have always slept better at night in cooler air.
In my case anyway, cooler air (not cold) has always been more conducive in regards to better sleep for me.
I’ve slept like a stone many times in heat, but, I think the cool, denser air facilitates better sleep, overall.
And, that’s all I’ve got to say about that…!!!!! :hilarious:

The houses we grew up in had A/C and I never understood why it was almost never used or maybe I do;)

Man Child’s wife of 2 weeks has COVID. She is mostly hibernating in their master bedroom. Sons PCR is negative but not really long enough since Friday. His office said he can come in tomorrow. Ugh for coworkers. Carl not taking her isolation well. Not getting it. He didn’t get it several months ago when Man child had COVID either.
