I was an adult by the time I first flew on a plane. I recall "smoking sections" of planes (in the rear of the plane). I must have sat further forward in the plane, as I don't remember the smoke affecting me.

Trying to recall -- prior to the smoking sections, was it just an open policy for people to smoke anywhere on a plane?

See my above post… ;):)

I remember those days when we first moved to Huntsville, AL in ‘66, and then to No Cal back in ‘68. We flew back to Texas for at least two Christmases and several summers before Mom and Pop bought the truck and camper. For those flights I (and when my two younger bros were old enough) had on a blue blazer, clip-on tie, light blue button-down long sleeve shirt, khaki slacks, and dress shoes…and we all got off the plane smelling like smoke, too…!!!!! :hilarious:
Mom and Pop didn’t smoke at the time, but, it seemed like everyone else did…!!!!! :hilarious:
For reference…Pop smoked for 12 years, but, quit 3 months before I was born, and never smoked again. Mom has never smoked.
Also, I remember flying on a DC-3, a Lockheed Constellation, and then 707’s after that. All smoke-filled tubes…!!!!! 🤣
I too can remember flying on The Lockheed Constellation from NY to West Palm Beach Fl to visit grandma. Must have been about 1960 I was 11. Flying was different I can remember my mother was dressed like she was going to church and my brother and I were neatly dressed. They actually feed you on the plane, as you say smoking was in the rear section I don't remember the smoke being that bad. Flew a 707 to Vietnam in 1969 what a long flight

Yea, maybe my memory is incorrect, but, I thought the smoking was all through the plane way back when. Doesn’t matter anyway, as so many people, and all of my friends parents, smoked back in the day, that I never really thought much about it, back then.
But, these days, if I get even just a whiff of cigarette smoke, it gets my immediate “attention”…!!!!! :D:hilarious:
And yes, the in flight meals…I remember A LOT of Chicken a la King on those flights…!!!!! 🤣

It was a long flight coming back, but nowhere near long enough going there. I went there on a "stretch" DC8 with huge red letters on the side that said AMERICAN. That did make the low flying part over Vietnam while landing slightly less than relaxing.

I remember being able to smoke on the plane. I was seated about in the middle. I had may last one (ran out) someplace over the Pacific. I arrived in country hot, nervous, and with only 4 pennies in my pocket along with a serious nicotine craving. Not the place to be overly worried about one's health at that point. Fortunately, before I started climbing walls I found two old friends from basic training days that leant me a few dollars and got me through until my first script payday.

Yep, never been to Maine, but, if and when I ever go, lobster is definitely on the menu…!!!!! :hungry:

As a side note…
I wonder how often people from Maine actually eat lobster…???!!!!! 🤔:hilarious:
Maine lobster is the best, and we actually have plans to go up there this week for lobster! :hungry: However, we're prepared for some major sticker shock. Due to various causes, the prices have been high since 2021. So even though many of the locals enjoy lobster as much as the tourists, it's a far less often treat for many, nowadays.
