Oh, the neighbor I mentioned yesterday (the man in city gov't. position) sent over two of his "DPW boys" (his quote, not mine :joyfull: ) to help us, which was great. Oh, the "boys" ranged from 25-70 years old . . . just sayin' :p ) -- one driving a larger city plow truck, to clear out the entire front of our location, and then the other guy driving a huge tractor who got in real close to our front steps and scooped up a ton of snow in the bucket -- and dumped that off in an empty lot down the street. That was major! Under normal circumstances, the city plows and private contractors only plow two lanes straight down the street (not up to the sides of streets).

(Side note -- our landlord is supposed to always send over his private plow driver for the front area and driveways, but his driver is kinda useless, as he gets there sometimes a full day after a storm. 🤦‍♀️ :hilarious: Half the time we end up shoveling out ourselves, before he graces us with his appearance. ) One time I offered him a cup of coffee and he appreciated that. Now, ever since that first time, whenever he shows up, he knocks on the front door and politely asks if I might have a spare cup of coffee . . . 🙃
When my mom was pregnant with me, she had a scheduled c-section because she had had my brother via c-section, so it was considered high risc. But I was a December baby, and there was a terrible storm that came through right before I was due. My mom started having back pains and they were worried she was going to go into labor before the scheduled C-section. They lived out on a ranch about 40 miles from the hospital and got so much snow that they couldn't get off the ranch. The County Commissioner was a local rancher, too, and friends with my parents. He sent a plow out to our ranch to plow a patch right to the front door so my parents could get to Gillette to the hospital before my mom went into actual labor. It's good to have friends in high places!!

Have you ever told the guy that you didn't have a spare cup of coffee to give him?

It's really windy and rainy here. I guess there's some big storm front....Storm Corrie. It's wet and windy here, but the coast is getting battered. They are doing a bunch of flood prevention because in 1953 there was a major flood that wiped out a lot of the coastal areas. Tomorrow is the anniversary of that, I think they said, and after that flood, they introduced new measures to prevent it ever happening again, and they are doing that today, so I guess it must be pretty bad. I'm about as far from the coast as you can get and still be in the Netherlands, so we're ok here, but it is WINDY.
