I once had a girlfriend that was totally enraptured by Schlotzky's. She lived in Houston for a little while. That is all I heard about was how great the place was. Finally, on a trip here in No. Carolina we found one. I'm sorry to say that either the build up was far beyond realistic or something else was wrong. I've never been so disappointed. It's hard to actually ruin a sandwich, but if the bread is as dry as the Sahara it makes for a loss at first bite. I wondered if that was just a fluke, so I had her try mine and she was fine with it and hers was the same. Just made my head shake. I was really hoping it was just a one place bad luck. Maybe I just don't like hard bread. I have tender teeth.

Yes, you’ve posted this before.
We’ve been going to Schlotzsky’s here locally for decades (since we moved back here in ‘76…place was founded in ‘71), and we’ve never experienced the bread being hard. Only if you leave a leftover portion in the fridge for a few days, and then all you have to do is nuke it back to life for about 20-30 seconds.
Can’t even explain why if it was that hard your girlfriend liked it, as I wouldn’t either. My teeth aren’t exactly perfect, and those lunch sandwiches were probably made about 30-45 minutes before we scarfed ‘em, and the bread was perfect all the way around.
I can’t account for the obviously stale bread in NC, or Houston, and her still liking it.

You don't need to defend it, I was just conveying my experience. I do a lot of posting in different places so I apologize if I had said it before, but that is still the experience I had. I don't have a vendetta against Schlotzsky's, I just haven't been back. I'm not a huge fan of fast food sandwiches anyway and lord knows I don't need the carbs. There are only three fast food items I like enough to stop for and all three are at McDonalds. McRib, Egg McMuffin and Sausage Burrito. The other day I decided to try Arby's Rib Sandwich and they were out. They Didn't Have The Meat.;)

I'm not a sub sandwich fan but I like fresh grilled burgers. At Burger King ask for the burger " off the grill ". That means the crew member has to put a patty on the grill conveyor belt to cook just for you instead of getting a burger patty that has been grilled that has been sitting in the food warmer container for who knows how long. Also get fresh fries instead of what is sitting in the warmer by asking for an order with no salt. The crew member has to fry you a special batch , then afterwards ask them for a few packets of salt.

I can't tell you when the last time was that I was in a Burger King and I don't know why exactly. It used to be my favorite place to go, but somehow I unconsciously just got out of the habit. If I go anywhere now I try for a Wendy's.

No problem, I have just never had a bad sandwich from Schlotzsky’s.
But, I must agree, other than a smoked brisket sandwich from Southside Market & Barbeque, which is King, the McRib is a close second…I never order less than two, and I’ve had more many times…just undefinably good “junk food”…!!!!! :hungry::hilarious:

I'm just glad the McRib isn't always on the menu.

Our McDonald's here doesn't open until 10am and they only serve breakfast until 11. And the only things they have for breakfast are Egg, Sausage, or Bacon McMuffins. You can get a croissant with it, and a drink but they don't have hashbrowns or any of the other breakfast items. I wish we had Arby's here!!

Yep, I’d be a McRib casualty by now…!!!!! 🤣

Used to *love* McRib circa 1989ish. Don’t think I could choke one down anymore. (It’s the biting into unpleasant textures thing.)
The one time I tried a McRib up here, it was awful. That was quite a few years ago, though. Maybe they've improved since then? Rarely go to McDonalds (Burger King is closer in my area), but I think the McRib remains to be an intermittent item on menu. (However, that might also be due to some of the fast food places reducing items on the menu, ever since the customer slowdowns, from 2020.)

Thank you sir. You were an inspiration.

That reminds me. I bought a tomato this week, and a small package of mozzarella. Planned to make (something like) a Caprese salad.

My tomato is still in the vegetable bin in the frig. I ate the cheese already. :joyfull:

Historically, McD's has always put out the McRib in the fall. Why? I don't have a clue, but I personally didn't care for them at first because the amount of sauce they used was awful. I like some but it was a mess to try and eat without getting it all over yourself. I think it was a problem for everyone because the next year they actually put on the register a button that called for "light sauce". Once that happened and I could taste all the components without having to lick it off my shirt, it became my favorite. As with everything in fast food, the pork is probably more like mystery meat, but I have taken to buying ground pork a lot lately to use in chili or Foreman grilled like a steak then covered with BBQ sauce and find it quite similar.
