Ones that retire ( early ) and live comfortably start investing at an early age in the markets, live below their means, and their money works harder than they do. Easier said than done but it can be done. ( FIRE ) financially independent retire early. It is a completely different mindset . In my opinion the economy would falter even more if businesses depend on their spending power because ones that FIRE ( that I know ) are frugal with their expenses as an example.
The younger set is lucky. They have a lifetime to put money toward the future. I was deep into over half my careers when the original 401K was introduced. We had invited a representative in to explain how it worked. At the time we were all promised that if we started now and invested $25.00 per week by the time we retired we would have a million working for us. Things tended to fall short of that, of course, but I started at that time and was able to retire a little early but the amazing thing was that the money that I had invested when I retired stayed untouched and unadded too for the first 10 years. It amazed me that it had increased in value by almost 110%. Untouched and invested it moderate risk areas. When they told us that we would have millions my first thought was if we are all millionaires can you image how much it would cost for a loaf of bread.

Because I was older when I started I wasn't able to put that much away, family to support, mortgages to pay and so on. But a younger person today that puts money away especially if the company they work for will match funds as a benefit they can live comfortably, if not in opulence, when retirement comes around. I consider myself as frugal (if not downright cheap) but I have still found ways to travel, golf and do other things and just enjoy my retirement. No limo required. Compromise is the key, I think! A VW Jetta will get you to exactly the same place as a Bentley, but for far, far less money. Those of us "common folks" are more bewildered than impressed with celebrities that are able to run through millions of dollars in just a few short years. I can't even imagine what I could want that would be that expensive or that rewarding other then ego. But how much of the ego remains intact after those millions are gone.

My wife was a nurse (retired) the majority of her career hospitals provided no retirement- wasn't until the last 10 years or so they started a 401 K Lucky I have a decent retirement. My son went off to college and he wanted a truck with all the bells and whistles and it would have cost a small fortune. Well I talked him into getting a new 2003 Dodge Dakota basic truck-- stick shift, manual windows, cloth seats --wasn't happy about it but I told him it would get you the same place as that expensive truck and cost way less. Funny he still has that truck and it is running strong. He has a family now and has the family vehicles for kids but that truck sure comes in handy-- The old man was right for a change

The stress of also dealing with customers too. Then again, I don't deal with the public per say anymore but they're still brats.

And people wonder why there is a worker shortage. If I could retire tomorrow and live comfortably, I would totally do it.

That too. I've grown tired of holding peoples hands when they're looking for items because they're too lazy to do so on account of holding a phone in their hands.

Told my HR today that I want to go overnight for the rest of the holiday season because I really cant deal with the stress of having to do 95% of the work while babysitting the other coworkers who move slow as snails. Did it last year and it beat me up to the point where I took a week off, the week after New Years.

I'm sorry that's been happening to you, buddy. I would say you can still come to where I'm at, but it's just as bad. It'll get better, just hang in there!
