I only named my first new car and that was just a spur of the moment name because someone asked my if I had named it. I instantly came up with Edith. No reason other than I just watched All in the Family and that was the first name that came to me. I bought that car right after I returned from Vietnam. I had it when I dated my wife, used it on our honeymoon, took and returned my wife and baby's to and from the hospital when they were born. I owned it for over 8 years and it never really let me down, but it was starting to act like it didn't want to start. We lived out in the country and I had two young children and I started to not trust it to go when I needed it to take me places. I finally traded Edith in and instantly regretted it. I'm sure she is in the old car lot in the sky. My father told me that we should have had it bronzed and placed on the mantel as an important family memory. Unfortunately, I didn't have a mantel at the time.Of all the vehicles I’ve driven, I’ve only ever named 2.
My first car, and the last car I owned before my present ride.
My ‘71 Olds Cutlass I named “Ol’ Bessie”, and after a hail storm a coupla’ years after I bought my ‘96 Hyundai Accent I named it “Lilly Dimples”…!!!!!
I did name the built in GPS in one of my cars Ida. That was my mothers name and she had the same voice as my mom plus whenever I ignored her and didn't follow her direction she nagged me until I got back on track. She also attempted to make me drive directly into a lake on a trip back from Maine once. I think she was mad at me again.
