You are very methodical and precise in all your advance preparations. It makes me smile :) because I'm just the opposite with vacations--I tend to just "wing it". (Part of the reason is that with my work and commuting schedules, and other responsibilities all year, I like to feel unencumbered by a schedule on vacation. I like the feeling of freedom for a change.) Anyway, either approach to a vacation has its own merits and drawbacks. Plus, I can understand that your group size may necessitate the need for more planning.

It's also much easier to be spontaneous when you travel solo, like me. Sometimes, I'll even get on the first bus or boat that stops at the hotel, and just go to wherever it's going! :D I never do the ADR thing, because my budget doesn't allow for TS meals (although, sometimes I might do just one more pricey dinner per trip; but either at one of the nicer restaurants at my hotel, or via in-room dining, versus the TS restaurants in the parks).

Walk-ins are usually always accommodated at my (non-Disney owned) hotel's finer restaurants, versus how the system is set up now in the WDW parks' restaurants. Years ago, you could often get walk-in service at just about any of the WDW parks' restaurants, whether you were there with a group of people, or solo. That system was far better, because I never knew what I felt like eating three months ahead (as in the ADR system), or what time I wanted to eat, on any given day of my vacation (either when I was travelling with family or friends, or when I've gone solo). ;)

Another TS I was thinking they might like is the Garden Grill in the Land. Is it a character meal but it's also all you can eat with some very tasty food. The rolls with honey butter are so good.

Many years ago I had lunch there and I loved it. It was an uplifting atmosphere, and the rotation was really cool, too. The food was very good, and I recall that some of the veggies were from the greenhouse in The Land. :hungry:

I didn't hate MagicBands other than mine never ever work at the MK however I don't get the excitement over them either. My best experience with MBs was the room key aspect in the morning. I brought back coffee and tea, didn't have to fish out a room key. Beyond that I didn't have an issue ever with paper/plastic ticket media. I never had to be waved over to a CM with an iPad to get me into a park I paid dearly to get into well in advance nor did I have to decide so far in advance what parks what days I had to be in. All said and done, putting down the coffee and tea to get into the room was worth the inconvenience over the drawbacks of the MB for me anyhow.

I'm not a fan of the bands at all, but it's because I don't like idea of wearing them. If I had one, it would take extra space in the tiny purse that I take to the parks. I just get the AAA discounted, WDW parks plastic ticket ahead of a trip, and it takes up no more space than a credit card. I travel very light.

Others really like them and that's fine; so I'm glad there is still a plastic card option, for some guests as well. :cat:

This leaves everybody with one available TS, in case I can get us into 'Ohana. If not, perhaps, Kona or the Rose & Crown. There are gaps in the schedule, that will have to filled in when I make FPP reservations.

I've tried to offer the GF a variety of Disney Dining experiences - a couple of fancier meals, some romantic meals w/Ski, some fun, some characters .... How did I do?

And now I need COFFEE!!
Excellent!

I am a big fan of Kona, especially for dinner. Teppan Edo is a must do for us, service is spot on as are their ressies. Chef's I like for dinner more than breakfast, gives you more for the dollar on DP or out of pocket. I've done Ohana's for both breakfast and dinner. It isn't what it once was for dinner and I believe it is tie for worst holding to ADR times along with Coral Reef, though I've never had a bad meal at Coral, I enjoy the food, it is no longer romantic, thanks to dining plan. I've given Mama Melrose a couple of tries I am done likely forever. I love the concept of SciFi but the food has never lived up to the atmosphere though if the reviews ever came back that their food became better I'd give it a try. Big River Grille that gets some bad press, it has the bestest burger on property in my opinion. It is amazing Kobe burger that leaves ones mouth so happy. They also have some interesting drink offerings. I'd hit this one in a heartbeat as a young'n. I thank my DS for reintroducing me to this place. Even the bun itself is wondrous.

We got stuck for two hurricanes in Disney times and they were nasty. Both Charley and Andrew. Sadly when I came back to work after more extended trips at Disney then expected due to the hurricanes I had to return to work and deal with the aftermath damages to cargo. It went on for over a year for both. But I did discuss with the consignees my experience with the hurricanes at Disney and got to relive those vacations for over a year. The lemonade.

We have never eaten at Mama Melrose and were thinking about doing it this year. What was your experience there?

Whatever floats your boat. Coral Reef I just warn everyone about. Last time, the wait was long, the restaurant was noisy, and the food was not that great (plus, I don't like fish. The steak was okay, though).

And you know I've never had a boyfriend, so the concept of romance just escapes me. I get asked the questions on online quizzes about perfect dates, and I'm like, "Couldn't we just stay in, order a pizza and watch some Netflix?" Cape May is nice and leisurely, though, plenty of time for talking. And they tend to leave you alone other than asking if you want a refill.

We might have been down there at the same time...I too was there for Katrina. Charlie was the other one we were there for. Charlie was definitely worse than Katrina; I don't recall Katrina doing too much.

Chefs is my favorite(although, even with my lack of knowledge about what is romantic, it's not romantic). I can see why your son wants to eat there. Sad because they took it off TIW and we haven't been in over a year (last time I went was with bestie). When I went with my Bestie, as teens, we sometimes got subpar service from waiters and waitresses who clearly did not want to be serving two teens. There were places that were great, like BOG, SciFi, and Teppan Edo, and there were places where the wait staff definitely had an attitude, like definitely Kona. Chefs was the definite exception. The service was excellent, the waitress probably the most friendly one the entire trip, and the entire wait staff was great. So I can see why your son wants to eat there. Great food + staff that doesn't mind waiting on young people = excellent.

We've liked Tutto the past few times. It was not great there for a while, but now it's gotten better.

Have not been to Ohana. Love Kona. Went twice in one day with Bestie. We went for breakfast, pulled a long MK day, and came back for dinner. Oddly enough, there was a staff member there for both meals. We recognized her and said, "Boy, you've been here a long time." Evidently, she started at 6 am, went to midnight, and then came back the next day (Sunday) and did the exact same thing. We felt really bad for her. Learned an important lesson, though. Sometimes, when a CM is not smiling or looking the best, it's good to remember that while you are on vacation, they are not, and sometimes, their job just plain sucks. They're just trying to support themselves and/or their families.
That's way too many hours, even when I was young, I would have been dead on my feet.
