They cover my salary while refusing to give other people hours so my dept can get all the help it needs. If your store is making 100K a day on the regular, you should be able to schedule people better, lol.
There are signs up everywhere for "help needed". The very reason why you hate working there is the reason that no one else wants to be there either. With the massive increase of "karens" or whatever other name one wants to call them, retail is one of the worse places to work as an up front position. The reasons for the increase are many, but it is at least partially because the standard rule is that we must make them happy at all costs. We have reached the point where the cost is way to high when it comes to getting good dependable help. It is not a problem just with your workplace but pretty much all of them and now with many part timers heading back to college, it just got worse.

That would be based on the actuality of the income. I don't know your position, but my guess is that you wouldn't necessarily be privy to the daily receipts. Or even the debt and extra expense that they have incurred because of Covid. For example, how many of the possible normal staff is now being utilized to fill online orders, package them up and even bring them out to awaiting cars. A job that the customer always handled in the past is now taking away personnel that could be used for other things like individual department staffing.

They may, at this point, even be trying to keep their head above water to avoid a corporate announcement that that location isn't producing and shutting it down or even prompting an over all corporation bankruptcy. I once ran a retail store, back in the stone age, and I know how small a gross profit margin they work with. I doubt it is much different today. Salaries come out of the tiny margin.

I think it's pretty much a problem everywhere. People don't want to work their tails off for not even enough to pay their rent, plus they don't want to take the abuse. That being said, we are always hiring where I work, and a lot of the young 20 somethings who come in don't really want to work. They want a paycheck, they just don't want to have to do anything to get it. They will stand in one place waiting for a box to come to their zone when there are 50 boxes stacked up in another zone that still need to be done. I tend to say "You can come help over here since your zone is empty!", but not everyone feels comfortable saying something. But I shouldn't have to ask. You get assigned to a station and you are responsible for every zone in that station....you clear one, you are supposed to move onto the next. And if your station is completely empty and the one next to you is busy, you are supposed to go help them until your station has something to do. There's always SOMETHING that needs to be done, but these kids come in just wanting to get paid for standing there. Most of them don't seem to last very long before they realize it's a lot more work than they were expecting to have to do.

Well, all minus one. Let's not be picky. She was probably part Raccoon. I'm fairly sure I don't want that one back.
