Thank you so very much, but, it’s actually “Pappy”...!!!!! :hilarious:;):)
It is amazing how many variations that grandfather has. It really depends what part of the country you are in. My part of the country was grandpa and grandma. When our grandkids were born my wife refused to be old enough to be grandma, so she insisted it be Nana! It later became Candy Nana because she always had candy for them and it provided easy acknowledgement between the two grandparents. The other was called Nana Sunshine because that is what she called all of the kids.

I had a 10 year gap before the last one was born. She was slow to start talking, but had developed her own sign language until one day she just magically started talking in complete sentences, but she called me Gampa. I melted when I heard it. I have to admit that Pappy makes me picture someone with a Jed Clampett hat and bib overalls sitting in a rocking chair with his shotgun across his lap.

Just kidding with you my friend. Congratulations on the newest family member. You have a very large family already whereas my family tree has a lot fewer branches, but I still sometimes see pictures of my little orbital family and can't help but thinking. Wow, look how many people are now in the orbit that started with just the two of us. Even at my age it makes me a tad verklempt.

I don't have the form in front of me, but I did just pull up a quick online general list for MA (below). I think there was actually a few more things on the actual form we got from the inspection. The below list is for a passenger vehicle only (there are different ones for motorcycles and trucks).

Inspection cost is $60. (Plus, whatever cost the vehicle owner puts into repairs prior to the inspection -- to get it up to inspection specs. We had just bought 2 new tires and had a few other mechanical things done -- and that was over $400 last week, plus $100 for the rod replacement/labor yesterday morning, so that the car would then pass inspection.) The entire ordeal is a PITA. :cautious:
  • Emissions testing,
  • Brake operation testing
  • Muffler and exhaust system noise and function
  • Steering and suspension testing
  • Horn operation
  • Window cracks and tinting regulations
  • Lighting: taillights, headlights, directionals
  • Tire wear, mounting, and height
  • Safety features: airbags and safety belts
  • Fuel tank
In IL, only counties that have a higher population have car inspections. Only emissions and that is about it. They will fail the car if there is a check engine light on. Which is the main reason our 2004 minivan has a hard time passing.

I remember reading car inspections do not reduce mechanical related accidents. Having lived in FL during their inspection days it was a joke, Took my 64 Dodge to get it inspected -said the left rear back was bad, took it home looked at it --it was fine. then they told me the right front was bad --took it home pulled it apart nothing wrong. Took it back it passed. Best thing they did was get rid of car inspections.
But, it is surprising they don’t test emissions. Especially in densely populated areas.
