So you're not anti heat, you are anti no AC. I got to agree there.
Yes, I'd be fine if we had AC, and we are probably getting that next year. They are making the houses in my neighborhood more energy efficient: better insulation, solar panels, double glass windows with a ventilation system, etc. We own our house, so ours won't get done, but we can pick and choose which things we want to do and because the city is wanting to incentivise these renovations, they are offering subsidies for a lot of it. My husband met with a guy from a solar panel company last week, and they also do AC installation. It's kind of expensive, but in the long run it's a good investment. With the solar panels, we'll have to pay less for electricity, with the AC, we won't need to run the fans when it's hot, with the windows, it will be cheaper to heat in the winter and cool in the summer. So that's the plan.

E officially is at "native speaker" level with English! She got her exam results today. She still has to put together a portfolio for her dual immersion program, but she gets a certificate that says she's proficient. This is important if she ever wants to work in a foreign country, especially an English speaking one. She wants to work for Disney at some point, so this is a good certification to have.

That, including a recent huge push for solar panels, is what the south is all about, at least in living conditions. (the rest of the south is stuck in the 1800's) The single most influential thing in the growth of the economy, and, at least in NC, the massive immigration to the state is the invention of AC and the Central AC sealed the deal. It does get too hot here to do anything outside and if it weren't for Hispanic immigration nothing would get done outside at all. I once watched those guys, wearing long pants, boots, t-shirts covered by long sleeve flannel shirts doing roof shingling on a three story build when the outside temperatures were 106 F. They drank a lot of water but didn't appear to even sweat that much. I was dying just watching them, but I was totally impressed with them.

The Latino guys I hired I agree with their incredible relentless work ethic. They were covered head to toe with clothing and they replaced my home roof in the mid summer temps 95 degrees, up on the roof probably hotter. It took them 3 days working 8-4pm. I told them in Spanish if they needed to use the bathroom to let me know. They did not take me up on my offer. They never let the job site and only took a 30 min lunch each day sitting next to their work van. Their van never left my house while they were working for 3 days. Also the late food critic Anthony Bourdain who worked in kitchens most of his life said if it was not for the Latino workers, the USA food service industry would collapse.

Congratulations to her. I always thought that people who can speak multiple languages fluently were super smart and to be envied. There are so many opportunities for people who can communicate well.

It's definitely an advantage. It's pretty much required over here. Schools require kids to learn English, German, and French. E has had 2 years of German and she's dropping that for next year. They have to keep either French or German and she prefers French. Plus, she hopes that might help if she decides to work at DLP. Were so close to the German border, she can get experience in German if she wants it, so she doesn't necessarily need the class. But English is the big one in the global market, though Chinese is becoming really popular. She still has to take English classes all the way through high school, though kids in the US do, too, so it's really no different. But having an actual certificate will help when it comes to applying for jobs. You can list English on your resume, but having the documentation to prove it gives her a leg up.

Disney+ more than pays for itself in my house. At this point if we had to keep just one service it would be that
Yeah, I definitely use Disney+ the most. HBO Max is a close second; I watch a lot of Fresh Prince and BBT, but I really don't watch any of their original content, whereas on Disney+ I watch all the Marvel Shows, Mandalorian, Hamilton...

Awesome! Congrats to her. I remember you once saying she has almost no accent either, which is amazing.
